I don’t know, and I’m not a doctor. But maybe facing what you are afraid of will help. But I would say the best thing to do is ask a doctor or phychologist.
try breathing and make a list of things you like. it’d calm you down a bit
Get in good physical shape; your symptoms will decrease in intensity. Weight training and stamina-increasing exercise is best.
I must say face it…if afraid first time try again & again This I do to facr my panic disoder in roller coaster.
This is a loaded question. I know because I used to suffer from panic/anxiety disorder many years ago. Mine even developed into agoraphobia. First, you need to get help ASAP. Going untreated, it can become much worse.
I know from personal experience that taking antidepressants can help block the attacks. Also, a mild tranquilizer is good to help with the anxiety. I would suggest that you go see a psychiatrist (they can prescribe medication). If you could find one that specializes in panic and anxiety disorders even better. They may suggest that you see a separate therapist, one who can offer support and suggestions and such. Most psychiatrists are expensive and you can go to them just for medication management and see someone else for therapy if need be.
Try to keep your mind busy. I have found that if I obsessed about it to much that would just make it worse. I know it is hard to “forget” about it but maybe you could take up a new hobby or something?
There are many support groups on the internet. Do a search for panic/anxiety disorder support groups. Also, you could call your local mental health center in the county you live in.
Best of luck to you.
Panic disorder, as is the case with most anxiety disorders, responds best to a combination of medication and therapy. There are a wide range of meds available and I would consult with a psychiatrist on the most appropriate option for you. A therapist can help you develop appropriate relaxation and coping skills to manage your symptoms effectively. There are also many good books out there on exercises to help reduce anxiety.
I too have anxiety/panic disorder, and take medications. Please seek out a Psychiatrist ASAP. Don’t smoke dope for sure!! Had my first full blown panic attack 20 years ago with that…..that ended my hippie days (& am glad of that). There is no one answer for everyone with this problem. When you are thinking about the fear of having “the next one”, what is the worst thing that could come of it if you did? You might faint from hyper or hypoventilation (usually just feels that way), otherwise, it is going to just be terribly uncomfortable for a short time and then pass. It always does. YOU ARE NOT going to die from it……..Promise ! I know it feels that way. I’m middle aged now, and I seldom have panic though anxiety is always low level, but I also have a good understanding of it after all these years. I needed someone to tell me what I just told you. Get help though. p.s. I have the book mentioned in the responses, “The Panic & Anxiety Workbook”, it did nothing for me.
