How can I make these anxiety attacks stop?

I’ve never had panic/anxiety attacks before until this morning and so far I am on my third one today. My heart starts pounding so bad I feel like it is going to explode, I cant breathe, I cant think, I start crying I just dont know what to do!?! I am Effexor as it is for depression. I know alot has to do with the severe stress I am under, bills mounting, bill collectors calling left and right, possible divorce, my oldest daughter started kindergarten this week, I just dont know what to do anymore! How do I make this stop? I feel like I am going insane!

Recently, I have begun to experience anxiety attacks that take place while I’m sleeping. I am not having them during waking hours, and they don’t seem to be inspired by nightmares. I just wake up with my heart racing, my chest tight, feelings of anxiety that force me to fully wake, etc. I have to stay awake for about an hour to feel better before I can go back to sleep. Why is this happening, and what can I do about it?

I get frequent panic attacks after my “run in” with a heart problem I had a year ago. Panic attacks for me comes in waves and does not leave me for 3 – 4 days. It makes me feel very scared and depressed and I am edgy all the time. I keep feeling pain sensations in my chest, back and arm and can’t get over the feeling – that I am going to die or get a heart attack.
I did go to the doctor and my heart specialist. They can’t find anything unusual in my heart …they have given me some medications for this panic disorder – xanax – but that freaks me out and the withdrawal symptoms are awful. Thanks

What is a phobia? There are a lot of anxiety conditions out there that people have to deal with daily. Some are common and things we´ve heard of like agoraphobia and social phobia and some are less common or less well known. These conditions arise when the preoccupation with worry has become so acute that you are no longer engaging in your normal routines.

Some of the common fears that can turn into angst driven nightmares are normal things that many people get nervous over but don´t avoid entirely. For example, many phobias center on the fear of going to the dentist, fear of thunder or lightning, fear of illness or fear of animals or elevators. Some of these fears don´t have a daily impact on our lives but they can have long term effects on our health or mental well being.
