Is there an age when you are more prone to developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? and why?

Post Partum Depression

How does post-partum depression happen and why? This kind of depression is similar to other forms of depression, except it happens after giving birth. It is not totally clear why some women develop PPD (as it is called) while other women may have the “baby blues” (a normal affliction including mood swings, crying jags, mild depression/ sleep problems/loss of appetite) and others have no symptoms of depression at all. As with any form of depression, if you have had it in the past you may be more likely to develop it during or after your pregnancy. If you had PPD with a previous pregnancy that will also increase your risk. Other risks include: significant stresses in the past year, marital conflict, insufficient support system, or unplanned pregnancy.

Some of the symptoms of PPD include loss of appetite, insomnia, intense anger or irritability, overwhelming fatigue, feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy, mood swings, difficulty bonding with your baby, withdrawal from family and friends, and thoughts of harming yourself or your baby. This is a long and scary list! The main thing to remember is that getting information as in reading this post or other information online, and getting early treatment are very helpful and important. And since isolation is a hallmark of depression, finding ways to reach out are extremely helpful.

I’m writing a story. Can post traumatic stress disorder lead to suicide? And if so, what would one act like shortly before the suicide?
The cause of the PTSD for the character is seeing the love of his life brutally murdered in front of him.

How to deal with post traumatic stress disorder?

Is there a way to deal/cure post traumatic stress disorder myself? I don’t have any money or insurance to talk to a lets say counselor, nor do I really think that going to a shrink would be a good idea. I read online and am sure I have PTSD and I know exactly what caused it. There’s no way to avoid situations that trigger memories. I can’t lock myself up all day/night. What can I do? Are there any free support groups?

I’ve researched my “ailments” and think I have self diagnosed my self with post traumatic stress disorder, how would I know for sure?

I have so much going on that I dont know where to start. My family and I are about to lose our home to forclosure is one thing. Im going through a major attack right now and dont know what to do. Should I go to the hospital?

There is a group of symptoms that arise as a drug addict or alcoholic attempts abstinence from their chosen mood altering chemicals. These symptoms which can include sleeplessness, unclear thinking and stress, generally appear 7 to 14 days into abstinence during the stabilization phase. This impairment is recognized as PAWS or Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome and can last 6 to 18 months after the addicts’ last use.

While in active addiction the addict/alcoholic experiences a disruption to normal brain activity which impairs clear thinking and emotion expression. Additionally, short-term memory loss, lack of coordination, sleep disturbances and stress are all part of PAWS and can make the recovery process sometimes long and arduous. As a result of continued abuse of drugs and/or alcohol the brain needs to make an adjustment in order to ‘right itself’ as neurotransmitters return to normalcy and acclimate to a life without mood altering chemicals.
