Agoraphobia is an abnormal and persistent fear of public places or open areas, especially those from which escape could be difficult or help not immediately accessible. The very word agoraphobia itself lets us know the nature of this debilitating condition. ‘Agora’ comes from the Greek language and it means places where people meet, or a marketplace. ‘Phobia’ is a fear of something. Thus we can understand that people who suffer from agoraphobia have a fear of being in crowded places.
Social Phobia is an interpersonal pattern of behavior which is most likely to appear and cause distress when a person feels that their social goals of asserting their wishes or gaining approval from others are dangerously unattainable or likely to fail. It is a form of self-overprotection from perceived social threats.

This article aims at inspiring both therapists and people “suffering” from a phobia or any other issue for that matter. I believe that people cannot have depression, people can behave depressingly; people cannot have anorexia, people can eat disorderly; people cannot have a phobia, people can behave fearfully etc. These behaviours cannot be purchased at a shop; they cannot be picked up by others. We choose (whether that’s consciously or unconsciously) to be depressed, to eat disorderly, to have that phobia and only when we can accept this do we realise that as we have chosen to have the problem we can now choose to change.
For some individuals phobias of any kind have a constant and limiting effect on their life. No matter how irrational they may appear they are a serious issue for the sufferer.

Are You Afraid Of Being Judged By Others?
Scientists have found that people who suffer from social phobia respond in a different way to negative comments about themselves, than other people do.
What characterizes this phobia is fearing and avoiding social situations, and fearing being judged negatively by other people, the authors say. It is without a doubt the most frequent anxiety disorder among the general population.

Introduction
Arachnophobia is the scientific name for the fear of spiders. It is a very specific phobia; i.e. an abnormal fear of spiders and sometimes other arachnids, too, such as scorpions and harvestmen. Many people are afraid of spiders and most of us get shivers down our spine just thinking about those pointy little eight legs crawling on our skin. However, a serious case of arachnophobia is much different than someone who just doesn’t like spiders.
Those who suffer from the phobia are not only afraid of spiders, but they also fear places where spiders might be, and since that’s pretty much everywhere, this can lead to a very limited lifestyle. People with arachnophobia tend to feel uneasy in any area they believe could harbour spiders or that has visible signs of their presence, such as webs. There are people whose arachnophobia is so severe that they will not go outside during the summer months for fear of encountering a spider. But even that doesn’t solve the problem because a big issue for those with arachnophobia is that spiders commonly live in houses, too.

Although it is typical for everyone to experience fears, having a phobia is a more serious matter. A phobia is an extreme fear that is seemingly beyond one’s control. Phobias are considered to be a type of anxiety disorder, and often trigger nervousness and anxiety attacks in an individual. When a person has a phobia, they become so determined to avoid their fear that it interferes with their daily lives and their ability to live life.
Some of the most common phobias are acrophobia, the fear of heights, claustrophobia, a fear of enclosed spaces, and arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. Arachnophobia is the most common phobia. Although lots of people are afraid of spiders, those with arachnophobia possess an unusual amount of fear. Even a photograph or realistic rendering of an arachnid can make some people uneasy. Some arachnophobes have panic attacks or panic at the sight of an arachnid. They are often willing to do anything in order to get away from a spider; for example, people with extreme arachnophobia might attempt to get out of a moving car if they see a spider in the car.

“Torture” is the word Alan uses to describe it. “Every time I walked into an office,” he says, “I would start sweating profusely, and I didn’t think I would be able to talk -even if my life depended on it. Then I would start to feel this intense heat rise and I would turn bright red. I feel like running away but of course I can’t. And it’s getting worse every time. I sometimes feel I can’t leave my home at all”Alan suffers from social phobia, a condition characterized by an intense fear of being scrutinized by others and of being publicly humiliated. The person with social phobia believes that all eyes are on him… And that he will embarrass himself. The anxiety can lead to panic-like attacks including such
symptoms as heart palpitations, faintness, shortness of breath, and profuse sweating.

Consider a life limited by fear and anxiety, in which every feat is examined and even the least decision is angst-ridden. Hours are expended scrutinizing daily tasks or circumstances that many people carry out easily. According to the National Institute of Health, more than 40 million adults in the United States who endure anxiety disorders have this type of life.
Concordantly, about 18 percent of those living in the United States endure a kind of a panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, general anxiety disorder or phobias, such as a social phobia, agoraphobia, or a specific phobia, which embody common fears of items such as germs, heights or elevators.
