<p>There are very few things in life that are worse than seeing a loved one suffer and live in pain. Even though most people would be desperate to help their friend, family member or lover to get better, it can be a very difficult process. There are so many issues and incidents that can impact on a person&#8217;s life and it is true to say that instances of post-traumatic stress disorder are on the increase. More and more people are suffering stress from something which has happened in their life but it is important that the people around give them as much support and assistance as they possibly can. This is not always easy but it is a very important to do as much as possible to support the sufferer.</p>
<p>One of the most important things when looking to help a sufferer of post-traumatic stress is to be patient and understanding. It can be very difficult to provide the support to someone who is shutting themselves away from the world or lashing out at people around them but this is often the time they need support the most. Anyone who has suffered from post-traumatic stress will understand the difficulties in communicating with the people around them which is why patience is an extremely important asset for friends and family members to have.</p>

<p>When trying to give support to someone suffering from post-traumatic stress, it can be helpful to understand and then possibly anticipate the triggers that cause the disorder to kick in. Some people may experience the stress at certain points of the year, if they have to go to certain locations or when incidents occur. Whenever i have <a href="http://panicgoodbye.com/blog">panic attacks</a> they never last for minutes they last for hours. During these hours of panic i tend to pull my hair little by little until it eventually comes out. Then i grab another piece. I do it on the bottom of my head so no one can notice and i never wear my hair up except when i am at home. I also tend to scratch my forhead until it bleads, sometimes it leaves scares. I wear my bangs over it so no one will notice. I try and do something else like squeeze a ball, but it doesnt feel the same. When i do it it doesnt hurt at all, until the next day. Why do i do this?</p>

<p> The most well known agoraphobic celeb is probably <strong>Kim Basinger</strong>, the gorgeous and talented actress.  As a child her parents thought she was so withdrawn that they wondered if she had autism.  Doctors checked her out and thought not – but she has seemed to find social interaction stressful most of her life.  She was agoraphobic for several years and believes it was related to all the public attention she was receiving.  Kudos to her for fighting that and becoming a successful actor anyway!</p>
<p> Another of the famous people with agoraphobia is <strong>Brian Wilson </strong>of the Beach Boys. His agoraphobia and bouts of schizophrenia are said to be a direct result of using LSD and other street drugs.</p>
<p> The rich and famous <strong>Howard Hughes </strong>had a troubled childhood, mostly lived alone and filled with many phobias of catching germs (polio was rampant and no vaccine had yet been invented).  He went on to become a very successful businessman but was troubled throughout his life with multiple fears and years of agoraphobia.</p>
<p> The lovely and gregarious <strong>Paula Dean </strong>is another on our list of famous people with agoraphobia! Paula became a single parent at age 19 and lost both her parents at age 23.  She became severely depressed. After having several panic attacks she became housebound – only venturing out for groceries.  All that time at home did have a benefit for Paula however.  While at home she cooked and cooked, perfecting her skills for 20 years inside her home.  When her life took another turn, she forced herself to go out into the world.  She opened a restaurant and was discovered by Oprah Winfrey! She is now  TV star in her own right.</p>

I have panic disorder and I am so freaked out to drive taking my meds that there is no way I could even drive to work. If I had diabetes I would need treatment and take meds from my dr. How can this be?  We are taking legal treatment for a disorder, very careful, responsible use.  But no driving.  IF someone drinks a couple they may get a dui and jail time. If you have a disorder same punishment.</p>

<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Yes. Physical differences have been observed among people who are prone to <a href="http://panicgoodbye.com/blog">panic attacks</a> or develop panic disorders. The following are descriptions of these physical differences.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p><span id="more-1237"></span></p>
<p>1) Sensitivity to adrenalin and hormonal changes</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In general, people with panic disorders including agoraphobia have overactive adrenal glands and are more likely to experience an adrenaline rush or “fight or flight” response when faced with a perceived psychological threat. This makes them more susceptible to panic attacks.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In panic disorder patients, adrenaline and a hormone called cortisol (a stress fighting hormone) are overproduced by the adrenal gland during times of prolonged stress.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The overproduction of adrenaline and cortisol interferes with the production of serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin and dopamine are neurotransmitters that stabilize your mood and sense of well-being. When serotonin and dopamine levels are low, your mood becomes unstable and you are less able to cope with stress. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In this state of chemical imbalance, you become more easily fatigued, your immune system is compromised, and you are more at risk for experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. Even after the original stressor is gone, you are likely to stay in a heightened state of anxiety.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>2) Sensitivity to medications</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>A greater sensitivity to medications, including side effects, is observed among panic disorder patients. As mentioned previously, the side effects and/or withdrawal symptoms for some medications, including anti-anxiety medications, mimic the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks. Because of this, medications prescribed to people who have panic attacks or panic disorder should be prescribed in smaller doses at first and then increased gradually as it is possible.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>3) Sensitivity to physical stimulus </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>People who have panic attacks usually have a heightened sensitivity to bright lights, temperatures, sudden or harsh sounds, and other sources of physical stimulation. Physical stimulus will more easily overwhelm someone with panic disorder, create an aura of disorientation, and lead to a release of adrenaline (triggering the “fight or flight” response). </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>4) Sensitivity to large amounts of sodium lactate</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Large amounts of sodium lactate in the bloodstream have been found by some researchers to cause panic attacks in people with panic disorder. Sodium lactate is produced when muscle cells convert sugar into energy. It is the basic solution in intravenous fluids given in the hospital.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In one study, panic disorder patients experienced a dramatic increase in blood flow to the temporal lobes of the brain when given sodium lactate. The temporal lobes are the same area of the brain affected when subjects in other studies (who do not have panic disorder) are given an electric shock!</p>

To gurlygirl20000: You do need to check the Federal regulations and see this is not just &#8220;trying to be PC&#8221; but it is considered a real disability and one that deserves job accomodations, such as possibly different breaks because of medication making you drowsy, changing hours or allowing work-from-home due to mental disability, and other things like that. It is more serious than just trying to be PC&#8230;.it&#8217;s real and I was asking a serious question.</p>

If you have obsessive compulsive disorder what your symptoms? what kind of job you have?</p>
<p>I have many different symptoms. I tends to keep on checking things over and over again. For example, I keep on checking the door lock and light switch over and over again to see if it locked properly, so that I get a right feeling that it closed properly.</p>
