Child anxiety disorder is the most common psychiatric disorder in children. These disorders cause a great deal of disruption in the lives of all members of a family. If they are untreated in children, they most often contribute to serious psychiatric illnesses as the children become adolescences and adults.

The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that as many as one in eight children between the ages of nine and seventeen will suffer from an anxiety problem each year. The types of disorders begin at different ages, and studies indicate these disorders follow “developmental progression” from one anxiety to another, and then on to an affective disorder.

Children, much like adults, tend to have more than one kind of disorder at a time. About three-quarters of children with an anxiety disorder have other disorders including depression. Anxiety disorders may also occur along with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Tourette’s syndrome.

Tourette’s syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder that manifests itself with tics of speech and movement. Common physical outcroppings of the disorder include eye blinking, coughing, sniffing, throat clearing, and facial movements. This particular disorder usually decreases through adolescence and is seldom severe in adults.

Anxiety becomes a disorder in a child when a mismatch occurs between a threat and the child’s emotional and physical response. This overreaction can be influenced by brain chemistry, gender, family history, and age. Girls have higher rates of anxiety disorders than boys do, and this carries over into adulthood.

The most common anxiety disorder among small children is separation anxiety. Social anxiety follows this in adolescence and then reverts to panic disorders as they reach adulthood. This is the usual progression of disorders when not treated at the earliest possible age.

The child who has a parent with an anxiety disorder has a much greater chance of developing similar disorders than other children. The odds are stacked against the child before birth, because indicators point to a probability of three-and-a-half times greater chance than with children whose parents have no such disorder.

Heredity is a strong influence on anxiety disorders. For instance, one child in four who has obsessive-compulsive disorder has a family member with the same misfortune. Of the remaining three-quarters of test groups, almost all have a relative with some kind of anxiety disorder.

A child’s temperament and personality may affect the way he or she accepts new situations or stimuli. The same may be true of how he or she interprets sensations associated with anxiety and fear. These factors play an important role in the severity of disorders when they occur.

Not every child with fears develops a child anxiety disorder, but fear is a contributing reason. The biggest contributor, however, seems to be the inherited traits of family and environment. At any rate, treatment at an early age is important to fashion an adult who can function normally in society.

When you finish reading this article you will understand what a massive anxiety attack is, how it resembles a panic attack and some things you can do to cope with these attacks.

Massive anxiety attack

Most experts agree that there is fundamentally no difference between a massive anxiety attack and a panic attack. In fact, these two terms are used almost interchangeably.

The clearest signals of a massive anxiety attacks are physical, though there will also be mental and emotional issues.

The physical symptoms or signals of a massive anxiety attack can include chest pain, headache, dizziness or vertigo, shortness of breath, and sweating. These attacks are also often accompanied by a feeling of lightheadedness, nausea, hot or cold flashes, burning sensations, trembling or shaking, and a feeling of claustrophobia.

Hyperventilation and other signals

Massive anxiety attacks can also be identified by hyperventilation, which is very fast short breaths. These attacks can include tremors in the legs, a tingling spine, and the sensation that you are feeling a heart attack. You may also find that you are grinding your teeth or tensing other muscles repeatedly for long periods of time.

Panic attack or massive anxiety attack?

If you feel you are suffering from a massive anxiety attack or panic attack, your attacks will most likely consist of sudden, short periods of intense anxiety, mounting physiological arousal, stomach problems (such as a spastic colon) and discomfort that manifests itself in the kinds of symptoms listed above.

The American Psychological Association says that the symptoms of a panic attack or massive anxiety attack usually last just about 10 minutes. However, they can be as short as one to five minutes, while there are times when panic attacks may form a cyclic series of episodes, that last for an extended amount of time such as hours.

Different people experience massive anxiety attacks differently

Many people who experience a massive anxiety attack for the first time may call emergency services because they feel that they are having a heart attack or a nervous breakdown.

On the other hand, people who have had long-term experience with panic attacks may be able to completely “ride out” a panic attack with little or no obvious symptoms or external manifestations.

Treating a massive anxiety attack

If you have had a massive anxiety attack, you should definitely see your doctor. You will most likely need some prescription drugs such as Elavil, Inderal, Effexor, Valium, or Xanax.

For more information on these medicines as well as information about natural ways to handle anxiety attacks, href=”http://anxietyattacktreatments.info/”>just click here.
Social phobia or social anxiety disorder is the constant fear of being criticized or evaluated by other people. People who suffer from social phobia are excessively self-conscious to the point where they feel that everyone around them is looking at them and judging them harshly. They become nervous, anxious and afraid of the world around them. For those with social phobia, everyday social situations like parties can become highly intimidating ordeals.

The key to the problem is that people with social anxiety want to be liked. They want very much to be seen as witty, dynamic and sociable. They want to fit in. However their anxiety about not performing well in public is so strong that it tends to cripple their best efforts. They freeze when they meet new people, particularly if they want these people to like them, for instance because they feel attracted to them or because they look up to them. They are afraid that their anxiety will be noticeable and this fear causes the anxiety to grow and turn into a vicious cycle.

Social anxiety usually develops early and without adequate treatment can be a chronic, unrelenting torturous condition. However, with suitable care, it is possible to overcome social phobia altogether.

Social anxiety disorder is an illness that customarily runs a chronic course and is often associated with other psychiatric disorders. The duration of social anxiety disorder is frequently lifelong. Yet in these times, there is no need for it to be. Significant improvements in the quality of life are within the reach of nearly all sufferers.

From a neurobiological point of view, low levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotomin are commonly associated with social anxiety. Research shows that people with social phobia are five times more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease in later life – Parkinson’s is caused by abnormally low levels of dopamine. From a pharmaceutical standpoint, drugs which boost levels of these neurotransmitters can provide very efficient treatment for social phobia.

As for psychological treatment, among the most effective are CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and CGBT (Cognitive Group Behavioural Therapy). In supportive environments, social phobics can learn to address their fears and can steadily overcome them. With the help of a therapist, they can develop strategies for coping and find a more constructive way of viewing their fears. The advantage of group therapy is that they can meet and interact with fellow sufferers, which will help them to realise that they are not facing their problems alone.

What You Should Do When Anxiety Attack Symptoms Arise

When anxiety attack symptoms strike, many people believe they are suffering from very serious, life threatening medical conditions. Understanding exactly what is going on with the body and what is creating the anxiety attack symptoms in the first place is not always an easy undertaking. There are certain things people who experience anxiety attack symptoms for the first time should do to be positive that anxiety is actually to blame.

Since anxiety attack symptoms can mirror heart attack symptoms, it is always advised that immediate medical attention be obtained to make the determination of the real cause. It is very difficult in many cases to distinguish an anxiety attack from an actual heart attack. A doctor should be the one to decide.

If anxiety attack symptoms are diagnosed as such, there are things people can do to help themselves if future attacks to present. It is important to remember, however, that some people might suffer from anxiety attack symptoms once in lifetime and then never have a repeat. For others, anxiety attack symptoms become a way of life as anxiety disorders develop and progress.

Treating anxiety attack symptoms often begins with medical intervention. A combination of prescription medications and therapy can greatly help people overcome attacks and resume normal, everyday activities. Unfortunately, if anxiety attack symptoms are left unchecked, some people might choose to isolate themselves from triggers. In extreme cases, this can lead to almost complete isolation. In some anxiety disorders, for example, people try to avoid all contact with the outside world, preferring the sanctuary of their own homes instead. This cuts them off from social activity, working, going to school and generally enjoying life to its fullest.

Beyond medical intervention to treat anxiety attack symptoms, some people find a number of alternative therapies quite useful. Some of the most common therapies used to treat anxiety attack symptoms involve those that can calm a person while an attack is in its onset phase and help them stop it in its tracks. These therapies include:

? Deep breathing/meditation. This can be a very effective means for helping some people with anxiety attack symptoms regain composure. The key to using this is to recognize onset signs and react immediately.? Facing fears. In the case of some phobias that bring on anxiety attack symptoms, psychologists will help patients face their fears to overcome them. This is generally only advised under close supervision by a trained therapist. If it is successful, a person might find they are completely rid of the condition and the attacks.? Hypnosis. Some hypnosis procedures have been shown to be effective in helping people overcome anxiety attack symptoms, or at least frequency.

Dealing with anxiety attack symptoms is not always an easy undertaking. When coming up with ways to overcome attacks is desired, a combination of therapy, medication and even alternative measures can help some people regain control over their lives.

Live and Learn: Anxiety Disorder Knowledge

Anxiety disorders are varied and include agoraphobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a number of other medical conditions. Most people do not learn about anxiety disorder normally, so it is important to put effort into learning about anxiety disorders if you or a loved one is diagnosed with one of these medical conditions.

The first place you can start when looking for information about anxiety disorders is, of course, your medical professional. If you think that you may have a problem with anxiety to the point where it is disrupting your life, you should see a doctor immediately and describe your symptoms. Your doctor will run tests and check your health in order to make a diagnosis, and be sure to save enough time during your appointment to ask questions about your anxiety disorder and your treatment options. If you feel rushed, make sure that you make another appointment in order to go over your anxiety disorder. If your doctor seems too rushed to talk to you, you are probably better off finding a new doctor who will make the time to help you.

Once you leave your doctor’s office, don’t go home-hit the library. There are hundreds of books devoted to anxiety disorders and you can find general information here, that has probably already been covered by your doctor, as well as specific information, including theories on the causes of anxiety disorders and the best treatment options. Along with the books you’ll find at the library, you will also find medical journals and magazines, which will provide you with the most up to date information in the medical community regarding anxiety disorders.

At home, you can continue your education online. The Internet is a wonderful resource when it comes to research just about any topic, including anxiety disorders. You can do this without leaving the home, which is an advantage to people who are suffering from anxiety disorders that are not yet under control. The Internet also allows you to connect to others dealing with the same conditions or in the health care world through email, forums, and chat rooms. However, remember that the information you find on the Internet may not always be the most accurate. Anyone can post on the Internet, from someone with a Ph.D. to your mailman.

No matter how you choose to research your anxiety disorder, it is simply important that you do so. Only when you have all of the information available to you can you truly be able to totally make the best decisions for your body and the treatment of this disorder. Be careful to find the health care professional that you trust. If you involve yourself in a therapeutic relationship, be sure you will be taught strategies that help you decrease anxiety and learn to relax. If medication is suggestion, become aware of all the side effects. Be sure that the side effects are not worse than the anxiety disorder! Be informed. This is your life and this is your body.

Anxiety is a perfectly normal human emotion, but when anxiety becomes severe, persistent and gets in the way of normal functioning it could be an indication of an anxiety disorder. While there are many different types of anxiety disorders, including Generalized Snxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and Agoraphobia, the one characteristic that unifies all of them is a pervasive sense of fear and unwanted, uncomfortable thoughts. These thoughts and fears, when left untreated can cause serious problems – both personally and professionally – for the anxiety or panic sufferer.

Anxiety disorders have no known cause, and depending on who you talk to you about the origin of your particular disorder you may get several different responses. Severe stress, family history and major life changes, such as the loss of a loved one, are all thought to be contributing factors in anxiety disorders, and many doctors believe the condition may be caused by a chemical imbalance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain.

Where to Turn for Help

If you suspect that you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder, the first thing you should do is consult your family physician for a complete examination. Explain your symptoms in detail, including how these symptoms affect your daily functioning. If your doctor confirms the presence of an anxiety disorder, he or she may then refer you to a mental health professional for treatment. Usually this treatment will consist of a combination of prescription medication, to help ease the symptoms of your anxiety, and psychotherapy designed to help you deal with the underlying cause of those symptoms.

Despite how an anxiety disorder can sometimes make you feel, you are not alone. Depending on where you live and the type of anxiety disorder you are coping with, you may be able to find a support group of people experiencing the same type of challenges that you are facing. If there isn’t a support group in your area, there are many online support groups that may be able to help.

How to Find Out More about Panic and Anxiety Disorders

In the past, information about anxiety disorders was hard to come by, but with the popularity of the internet all of that has changed. There are literally thousands of online sites, including the one operated by the National Institute for Mental Health, or NIMH.com, dedicated to providing current and useful information to those suffering from all types of anxiety disorders and phobias.

Living with an anxiety disorder can be a frightening and frustrating experience, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one. If anxiety is beginning to cause problems in your life, seek out medical attention and support immediately, and take the first step towards reclaiming your life.

Abnormal and pathological fear and anxiety is just some of the different forms that covers anxiety disorder. As of this time, the psychiatric diagnostic criteria has recognized a wide range of variety of anxiety disorders.

Anxiety disorders can be present from an early age or begin suddenly after a triggering event. This would affect everyone regardless of their age and gender. Anxiety disorders are prone to flare up at times of high stress and are frequently accompanied by physiological symptoms such as headache, sweating, muscle spasms, palpitations, dizziness, fear, nervousness, worry, dread and hypertension, which in some cases lead to fatigue or even exhaustion. This type of anxiety that happens constantly or too intense it may very well cause the person to feel distracted, tense, always on the alert, and preoccupied.

In terms of discourse, anxiety and fear are often used interchangeably. However, in clinical usage, they have distinct meanings. Anxiety is defined as an unpleasant emotional state for which the cause is either not readily identified or perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable, whereas fear is an emotional and physiological response to a recognized external threat. In lighter terms, anxiety is unidentifiable and is usually perceived and fear is otherwise.

Researches have also indicated that anxiety disorders are often tracked with those who has a family history of anxiety disorders, specifically certain types of disorders.

However, anxiety is a natural human reaction. Oftentimes, this serves as the important basic survival function of a person, which it can benefit a person when he feels or perceive danger.

In case the mind of a person react to threat or danger, he will automatically trembling hands or legs, a queasy stomach, sweaty palms, tense muscles, and a faster heartbeat and breathing. These sensations are the body’s normal response to threat. These responses are caused by the adrenaline rush as well as other chemical reactions in our body that will allow us to make a quicker reaction against danger.

According to research, anxiety disorders are the most common of emotional disorders. It fills people’s lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear and can grow progressively worse if not treated. The good news however is that treatments for anxiety disorders are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives.

The anxiety disorder symptoms often happen abruptly and gradually. But it is common for those with anxiety disorder to not know what’s causing the anxiety they have. Sometimes the feeling of doom and apprehension just come out of nowhere.

The different signs of anxiety disorders would include:

*Uncontrollable obsessive thoughts *Having feelings of overwhelming fear and panic *Intrusive memories that are painful recurring nightmares *Nausea, sweating, muscle tension, and other uncomfortable physical reactions *Feelings of apprehension or dread *Trouble in concentrating *Having a jumpy and tense feeling *Pounding heart *Sweating *stomach upset or dizziness, frequent urination or diarrhea *A feeling that you are losing your breath *Insomnia, fatigue, headaches, muscle tensions, and tremors and twitches *Anticipation of the worst and watching for signs of danger *A feeling that your mind has gone blank, irritability and restlessness

Fortunately, much progress has been made in the last two decades in the treatment of people with anxiety disorders. Although the exact treatment approach depends on the type of disorder, a combination of medication and psychotherapy may be used to treat anxiety disorders.

General anxiety disorder is a common problem, but doesn’t get talked about so much. In fact, millions of us are affected by some form of anxiety disorders. In this article I’ll talk about what this elusive disorder is, and what you can do about it.

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD?

Virtually everyone has occasional bouts of anxiety, or anxious thought patterns. In contrast, GAD is a state of periodic and elevated anxiety, often characterized by excessive thinking and dwelling on the “what ifs”. As a result, you may feel that there’s no way out of the vicious cycle of worry. You probably have this disorder if you have recurring anxiety, as opposed to occasional worry.

What happens when you have GAD?

To illustrate how it works, we’ll use the analogy of a water faucet. If a faucet is working properly when turned off, we experience a relaxed home environment – which equates to a relatively anxiety-free existence. However, if the faucet has a leak and is dripping periodically, you could equate this disruptive dripping noise to that of someone with general anxiety.

Over time the pipe remains intact, however the leak gets worse. What was a minor disturbance can escalate into a loud, steady stream, which can no longer be ignored. This situation is how general anxiety disorder feels – it demands your attention.

Worse yet, this unstable situation is a breeding ground for the pipe to burst. In our analogy, this is when the disorder can turn into a panic attack.

What causes GAD?

General anxiety disorder is caused by recurring anxiety:

Repressed emotions A chemical imbalance Nutritional imbalance Physical, mental or emotional exhaustion caused by stress

What’s are your best treatment options? Once you know the causes of anxiety, you can work to reduce or eliminate anxiety entirely.

Here are four steps that you can take to help eliminate GAD:

Educate yourself. There are many excellent holistic books and classes that help reduce or eliminate anxiety by teaching the principles of the mind-body-emotion connection, as well as anti-stress techniques.

See a qualified medical professional to get a diagnosis in the event that you have a nutritional or chemical imbalance. You may want to do one or all of the following: a.) a blood screening, b.) a checkup with your physician, and c.) discuss your situation with a psychiatrist (Ph.D.) who understands medications. Your doctor can help you select the appropriate course of action if required.

Meet with a therapist or support group, which can assist you by teaching healthy ways to deal with conflict, rather than repressing emotions.

Use exercise as a Stress Reducer: Exercise produces the good hormones, such as endorphins, that keeping your mind and body balanced. Some people benefit from Yoga, a practice that incorporates relaxation techniques into exercise and movement.

While it takes commitment to identify and consider the best general anxiety disorder treatment that suits your lifestyle and your needs, it’s well worth it! Many people who treat their disorder proactively report full recovery. For you, this means you’ll be rewarded with a better quality of life, and a greater sense of peace.

Article by Lynn Woods

An anxiety disorder is a serious mental illness characterized by constant and overwhelming fear and apprehension. While everyone feels nervous from time to time in new or challenging situations, the degree of nervousness suffered by someone with an anxiety disorder is overwhelming and often disabling. Panic and anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorders. It’s estimated that one in four Americans will suffer debilitating anxiety during his or her life. The most common types of anxiety disorders are:

1) Generalized anxiety disorder – chronic unrealistic fear and worry that are not focused on any specific thing or situation. This is the most common anxiety disorder among adults.

2) Social anxiety disorder – a fear and avoidance of public embarrassment or disapproval. People with social anxiety are overwhelmingly worried and self conscious in everyday social situations.

3) Obsessive compulsive disorder – involves recurring obsessions (distressing and intrusive thoughts and/or images) and urges to perform repetitive routines or rituals. A common example is someone who obsesses about germs and repetitively washes his or her hands.

4) Post-traumatic stress disorder – evolves out of a traumatic incident such as a sexual assault, war, or natural disaster. PTSD symptoms frequently include anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, anger and depression.

5) Panic disorder – involves brief, unprovoked attacks of terror, accompanied by physical symptoms like shaking, dizziness, heart palpitations, sweating, and trouble breathing.

6) Separation anxiety – excessive and inappropriate feelings or anxiety when separated from a particular person or place. Separation anxiety is a normal part of childhood development, but poses a problem if it occurs in late childhood or adulthood.

7) Specific phobias – An intense and overblown fear and avoidance of a specific thing or situation, such as spiders, bridges, heights, or flying.

While each anxiety disorder has its own unique set of symptoms, they all tend to be characterized by repeated negative thoughts, feelings of fear and uneasiness, nightmares and trouble sleeping, and physical symptoms like nausea, headache, dry mouth, muscle tension, palpitations, cold or sweaty hands and difficulty staying still.

While scientists aren’t sure what causes anxiety disorders, they believe it’s a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including stress and trauma. Anxiety disorders tend to run in families, and are suspected to be connected to an imbalance of the brain chemicals which control mood, much like depression. Caffeine and alcohol contribute to anxiety, as can some over the counter and herbal remedies.

Fortunately, anxiety disorders are among the most treatable of mental health conditions, and are commonly addressed with a combination of medication and therapy. Antidepressant drugs are generally the first medication of choice, in particular SSRI antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Depression medication works by affecting the concentration and activity of neurotransmitters in the brain, addressing both anxiety and the depression that so often accompanies it. Some patients may be prescribed an anti anxiety medication such as a benzodiazepine along with their anti depression medications. If necessary, beta blockers may also be prescribed to minimize physical anxiety symptoms such as shaking and a rapid heartbeat.

Combining antidepressant medication with therapy offers the most effective and rapid relief for anxiety disorders. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is generally considered the most appropriate type of psychotherapy. Relaxation therapy is also helpful, and many anxiety sufferers report that they benefit from meditation.

			    About the Author

Lynn feels strongly about access to affordable medicine, and advises that antidepressant drugs from Canada are more affordable. She recommends Big Mountain Drugs as a reliable Canadian pharmacy from which to buy Lexapro 10 mg and buy generic Lexapro.

Article by Charlotte Wilson

The experience of panic attack is so terrible that it jolts not only the physical existence of a person, but also proves to be destructive as it drains you psychologically. Several techniques are being used over the world as cure for panic attacks; however, studies reveal that it is very important to know and understand the reasons behind your inherent fear that triggers panic attacks.

The reasons for panic attacks may vary from person to person and so also the treatment required for panic attack cure. Some of you might be afraid of public speaking, while some might fear driving; however in almost all cases it happens that the person suffering from anxiety disorder is aloof from the idea of being struck by a bout of panic attack.

Cure for panic attacks is not an impossible proposition if you start worrying less for your inherent fears and get mentally prepared to overcome anxiety that triggers such attacks. Research have shown that anxiety explodes into full blown panic attacks when a person is constantly worrying about certain happenings in life and at the same time lives in fear of suffering another anxiety or panic attack.

Anxiety Release Methods for Panic Attack Cure

There are several proven methods to cure panic attacks; the most practiced by doctors being prescription medicines. Even though medications offer immediate relief from anxiety and panic attacks, they cannot be considered as panic attack cure taking into account possibility of side-effects on long-term treatment.

Other methods offering notable cure for panic attacks are cognitive behavioral techniques other than following strict dietary regime and exercises including yoga and aerobics as well. Apart from that there are holistic treatments like meditation and aromatherapy that can provide soothing effect and calm your senses. However, most of these forms of treatment cannot assure permanent cure for panic attacks and can only be effective as temporary and short term relief.

Self-help techniques is possibly the most realistic cure for panic attacks, with several proven anxiety release methods paving the way for an anxiety free and stress free life. The basic concept of these self-help methods is to drive panic away by preparing your body and mind to get over these anxiety and fears. It is very important for you to make yourself believe that the situations or the conditions that scare you are momentous and should not overpower you on any counts.

Simple Effective Techniques and Cure for Panic Attacks

Most people after each passing panic attack feels as if they have survived a heart attack. The feeling is so intense that it mostly develops into a phobia leading to fear psychosis for forthcoming panic attacks. One of the foremost things you need to realize is ‘what triggered panic attacks’. Once that is known, you have to uproot your fears about the condition and make yourself understand that what you have been experiencing during panic attacks is just a condition which will eventually pass and you are not going to die. This is one of the primary stages you need to follow for possible panic attack cure.

Studies have shown that many people, who suffer from social anxiety or frequent panic attacks, retract into self-imposed solitary confinement fearing public humiliation. However, that cannot be the solution or will not lead to cure for panic attacks. It is very important to distract yourself from the anxiety situation or even move away from it, until the attack disperses.

Panic attacks are a result of consistent stress and anxiety. Therefore self-help anxiety release methods like controlled breathing exercises, meditation and even music can play an important role in panic attack cure.

There are different ways to prevent or at least lessen an anxiety illness and that is through relaxation. Anxiety will not bother you a lot if you only knew how relax and calm down. Deep breathing exercise is seen as a very common and effective remedy for anxiety as it provides the good penetration of oxygen in the brain and in the body, thus lowering your stress promptly.

Music and aromatherapy can also be added while you are deeply breathing. Make way towards a relaxing and spacious spot wherein you can lounge and exercise deep breathing to counteract anxiety illness. Another technique which is beneficial is known as progressive muscle relaxation wherein you could learn to relax and tense down your body muscle. With this reason, you could discriminate tension from your relaxation. By doing so, you can relax your muscles as well as your whole body and mind or whenever you feel that there is tension in them or when you feel anxious about something.

Moreover, mindfulness meditation is a technique that helps in lightening anxiety illness, depression, stress and other negative feelings. Mindfulness is about a person?s full awareness of his surroundings yet not overly thinking about it. It makes an individual with anxiety illness cease stop being bothered by a terrible past experience or worrying about future situations. As of now, mindfulness really makes you feel concentrated. Mindfulness consists of body scan, mindful eating and walking meditation.

Whenever you say walking meditation, it is the procedure of exercising mindfulness meditation while walking around. Observe your feet?s movement and how you inhale and exhale. Observe and feel your environment while you are also experiencing the cool air that gets into deep down of your skin. This quiet but beneficial exercise will positively help evade anxiety illness.

To fight an impending anxiety attack and help manage it, you can also make use of visualization by envisioning a serene and stress-free setting in order to release the tension, pressures and worries within the body. It is easier to do it with the help of a professional therapist and a pre-recorded audio tape and used.

There are other ways to prevent anxiety illness and become more positive about anything. Those who suffer from this illness should be fully aware of simple relaxation methods as they can optimistically help them in controlling their anxious feelings and thoughts which can become really troublesome and inconvenient.

Here, you’ll learn how to identify the physical symptoms of anxiety attacks and how to stop them naturally without drugs. Anxiety attack symptoms are horrifying, but once you know them for what they are, and what causes them, you’ll be better placed to deal with them.

What Causes Anxiety Attacks?

Anxiety attack, or panic attack, are the names given to the condition where a sufferer experiences a set of symptoms that appear suddenly from nowhere. These are extremely frightening symptoms that are actually the result of your body’s natural, in-build protective response to a ‘perceived’ threat.

For example, many thousands of years ago, when a human was confronted with physical danger, the body reacted by triggering extremely rapid chemical changes to occur in the brain, that caused numerous physical changes in the body, in order to give the person as much chance to survive as possible.

Heart rate, blood flow, vision, hearing, muscles, etc. were all rapidly enhanced to allow humans to fight or run away to their maximum ability. This is called the body’s flight or flight response.

How to Identify the Physical Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks

Now, in the present day you’re highly unlikely to be faced with wild animals or other tribes trying to kill you, etc. So how come your body reacts in the way it does?

Remember, your body only needs to ‘perceive’ there is danger; it doesn’t actually need to confirm it. Your body doesn’t want to react too slowly, nor does it want to take a chance with your well-being, so it ‘assumes’ the worst case scenario, and triggers the response.

All this takes is for your anxiety levels to rise beyond a certain level. An anxiety or panic attack can occur in a person who already has higher than normal levels of anxiety or stress.

For example, if you’re in a period of your life where you’re under daily stress and / or suffering from general anxiety. All it takes is for you to be faced with an everyday stressful event, e.g. being stuck in rush hour traffic, for that additional spike of stress to add to your already high anxiety levels and push your anxiety ‘over the top’ thus triggering your body’s response.

Your body is preparing you to fight or run away. But, because you aren’t aware of any physical danger, the chemical and physical changes happening rapidly to you, manifest themselves in the symptoms of an anxiety attack.

Typical symptoms are tightness across chest or throat, racing heart, trembling, tingling extremities, nausea, rapid and shallow breathing, hot and cold flashes, a ‘detached from reality’ feeling, a feeling of imminent doom, etc. I can testify to just how terrifying these symptoms can be.

How to Stop the Physical Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks

(1) Remember that they cannot harm you. They are only your body’s natural reaction to a threat that doesn’t even exist! Bear this in mind at the onset of the symptoms.

(2) During an anxiety attack, your body’s oxygen / carbon dioxide ratio is out of balance, partly due to your shallow, rapid breathing. Re-balance this by regaining controlled breathing. Breath slowly and rhythmically in through your nose and out through you mouth. Re-breathing into a paper bag can help too.

(3) Distraction is another technique that can help. You need to distract your mind from worrying about your symptoms as this only adds to your overall anxiety. Talk to your friend or partner, focus on an object and get as much information out of it as you can.

The Fear Factor Holding Your Recovery Back

There are many techniques for handling anxiety and anxiety attacks. But there is one critical issue that is often overlooked. And that is your in-built fear, since your last attack, of having another. And no wonder, anxiety attacks are so distressing. You can recognise this fear for what it is or, it can be in your subconscious.

But this fear adds to your already high anxiety and stress, so can push you over the edge once more into another anxiety attack. You need to break out of this cycle of anxiety / anxiety attack / fear / anxiety / anxiety attack, etc. in order to prevent anxiety attacks and eliminate your general anxiety.

I have Generalised Anxiety I am seventeen does this mean that I shouldn’t pursure the career of being a psychologist as I am not mentally stable myself so how can I help someone overcome their mental instability? It actually saddens me the thought that seeing as I have this I may not be able to have the career I want. I know there are ways to cope and make myself calm and not have anxiety, but won’t it always be there? Is there such thing as an anxiety disorder going away.

Best answer:

Answer by Heather
IF that is the career you want to presue , then your anxiety isnt going to interfere. Because you can understand and relate with others better because of your situation. dont let it stop you !! :D

In today’s society, it has been estimated that 40 million men and women 18 years and above deal with anxiety attacks. Anxiety attacks are commonly attributed to feelings of worry and fear over certain situations and events, which they view that they have no control over it. Although these are emotions that are felt by everyone at certain points in their lives, anxiety attacks are more than just another one of those emotions.

Anxiety attacks is one of the most common mental health conditions that affects men and women of all ages. The different symptoms of anxiety attacks vary depending on the severity of the condition. If left untreated, anxiety attacks can greatly affect the ability of a person to function normally at work, at home and in society.

People struggling with anxiety attacks experience a number of different physical sensations. Some of the common symptoms of anxiety attacks include the tightening of the chest, difficulty in breathing, profuse sweating, heart palpitations, tremors, having a tingling sensation on different parts of the body, feeling of numbness and being nauseated.

Because the symptoms of anxiety attacks happen suddenly, one of the questions that people struggling with anxiety attacks is what causes anxiety attacks. One of the most common causes of anxiety attacks is a development of a perception – whether consciously or unconsciously – about a particular situation or event. Individuals that deal with anxiety attacks have developed a perception of dread and helplessness towards a particular situation or event whether or not there is actually a reason to fear or not.

Another cause of anxiety attacks, according to many psychologists is genetics. Studies have shown that people who have relatives struggling with anxiety attacks are more likely to experience the symptoms of anxiety attacks later on in their life.

Past traumatic experiences are yet another cause of anxiety attacks. War veterans and survivors of violent crimes experience the different symptoms of anxiety attacks when faced with a situation or event that brings back the memories of these horrendous events.

Just because you are struggling with anxiety attacks means that you will need to suffer for the rest of your life. The truth is, there are ways on how to deal with anxiety attacks. Apart from the usual anti-anxiety medications prescribed by psychiatrists, there are also alternative methods of treatment that you can use, including group therapy treatments and herbal remedies, to address the symptoms of anxiety attacks so that you can live a relatively normal life.

If you suffer from an anxiety disorder you’re all too familiar with its effects. Anxiety disorders can appear at all phases of life and children can also experience them. There are different kinds of anxiety: panic, obsessive compulsiveness and generalized anxiety. This article covers the basic facts regarding generalized anxiety disorder, including symptoms and treatment choices.

Being continually afraid or concerned over everyday affairs is a typical symptom of generalized anxiety disorder. If you suffer from this it’s quite common to experience unrelenting feelings of tenseness, which can cause you to feel tired if it gets in the way of your sleep. Nausea and diarrhea, among other stomach health conditions, can result from constant worrying. People suffering from generalized anxiety disorder also have to deal with recurring back pain, neck pain, muscle tension, and headaches.

The exact reason for generalized anxiety disorder is still debated by doctors. Since many people with generalized anxiety disorder respond well to medication, it’s thought that the disorder has an effect on brain chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin. Since this disorder is typically inherited in families, experts believe that genes and several environmental concerns contribute to basic anxiety disorder. Specialists believe that those suffering with this disorder have experienced a very stressful event prior to the onset.

Although no one knows for sure what causes it, physicians at least have the ability nowadays to treat the distressing symptoms and improve patients’ daily lives. Medicines used to treat various psychological symptoms, such as depression, are often the first step in treatment. Prozac and Paxil are just a couple of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (also referred to as SSRIs) physicians might utilize to minimize or inhibit anxiety related symptoms and conditions. But when these medications do not work, health care providers have an option to write a prescription for something different that may work instead.

Combining drugs with therapy can be an extremely effective technique that will lead to excellent treatment results. Patients learn to control their adverse thoughts when they engage in psychotherapy. Commonly, psychotherapy sessions are led by a psychologist or psychiatrist who has experience in treating anxiety disorders. Exercises that focus on relaxation such as yoga or meditation can also be very effective and noninvasive ways to treat anxiety naturally. The combination commonly brings less serious symptoms and a better life for you.

Depression, Anxiety and other phobias are part of our psychological phenomenon in the medical science. Depression is caused due to chemical imbalance in the nervous system of a person. This is concerned with psychological conditioning of the patient. On the other note, Anxiety is caused due to the imbalance in the body of a person. Anxiety is concerned with the emotional behavior of the patient. Though Depression and Anxiety are two disorder forms of the same category, they have different symptoms. Feeling of hopelessness, negativity, lack of concentration, feeling of guilt and decrease in energy are some of the common symptoms of Depression. While, tension of day to day work, dizziness, nausea, difficulty in breathing and light headedness are few common symptoms of Anxiety. There are many forms of Depression and Anxiety. Panic Attacks, Social Disorders, Specific Phobias are the types of Anxieties. Psychological Predisposition and Environmental Stresses are the types of Depressions. All these symptoms can cause hazardous diseases in the long run. So, you should take extra care of yourself, if you are suffering from either of these troubles. Depression and Anxiety can not be fully cured, but can be treated for sure with the help of proper medication and therapies. The medical practitioners hold few sessions to understand the mental conditioning of the patient and suggest appropriate medical aid. Anti-Depressants, Anti-Anxiety medications and other types of medications are aimed at alleviating symptoms of Depression and Anxiety. When the treatment fails in the case of Depression, then Electroconvulsive Therapy has been proved to be successful in the treatment. Many of the Self-Help Support Groups help people in treating their problems by making them sit with others and hear the other experiences to get out of the situation. Depression and Anxiety is more common in women than in men. If one man out of ten is suffering from these problems, its one woman out of four is facing Depression or Anxiety disorders. A patient can overcome these situations only with his strong will to recover.

Anxiety / panic attacks regularly come ‘out of the blue’ which is why they are so scary. And they can last up to 20 minutes or so. But by employing some simple techniques you can prevent attacks developing too far, or even stop one in its tracks. Here you’ll discover 3 simple ways to prevent anxiety attacks that you can try.

First though, before we discuss the ways to reduce anxiety attacks, let’s quickly go over what starts an anxiety attack off. It occurs when your total anxiety / stress levels shoots up to such a height that your body’s ‘fight or flight’ response is triggered. This is you body’s natural defense in dangerous situations. When the human body ‘senses’ danger it triggers this response which sets off major changes around the body. These physical and mental changes give you the best chance of survival.

But an anxiety attack happens out of the blue, and nothing to do with you being in danger. All that’s happened here is that your body has misinterpreted your very high stress / anxiety as a sign that you’re in danger. Therefore, all that an attack is, is you experiencing symptoms that are a direct result of all the changes happening because of your body’s fight or flight response.

Now this leads us to the most important fact you can take away. And that is that an anxiety attack cannot harm you. This is a medical fact. When you reach this understanding you are more than half way to preventing anxiety attacks in the future.

All right, here are the 3 simple ways to prevent anxiety attacks that I promised:-

(1) Remember That Anxiety / Panic Attacks Are Harmless

Because you now know that the symptoms of panic attacks are just your body’s natural reaction to a ‘misconception,’ you definitely realize that you aren’t in any danger. By this very realization the fear that you normally have during an attack can be stripped out. This in turn helps to reduce the severity of the other symptoms and the time that the attack will last.

(2) Control Your Breathing

One of the most frightening aspects of a panic attack is hyperventilation, i.e. short, rapid breathing. When this happens your body’s normal oxygen v carbon dioxide ratio is upset. You need to get this back on track. One way is to breath into / out of a paper bag; as you may have seen people do on TV or on films. Without a bag you can also start to breath more deeply and regularly, ensuring that you use both your diaphragm and your upper chest.

(3) Concentrate Your Mind Externally

One of the worst things you can do is to analyze your symptoms. By doing this you will only get more scared and this will make the symptoms even worse. Get your head up and start concentrating on the things around you. But remember, all the while you should be repeating to yourself that you know that this attack won’t harm you and will soon pass.

I have found these 3 tips to be effective ways to control anxiety attacks. But on their own they aren’t sufficient to actually stop anxiety attacks occurring in the first place. This is because the actual fear of an attack can help to trigger the next one.

And, in addition, an anxiety attack usually occurs when the victim already has high levels of general anxiety. This all leads to a vicious cycle that needs to be broken, in order to permanently prevent anxiety attacks and cure the general anxiety…

Article by Candace Martin

Many people think of anxiety disorders as something like a fear of walking into a room full of strangers, or perhaps a strong fear of public speaking. They might recognize a condition like agoraphobia, a fear of leaving the home or going into open spaces, as an anxiety disorder, but don’t think much beyond that. But there are other types of social phobias and disorders that fall into this category, some of which receive very little attention from the general public. And all of them have characteristics that make them difficult either to diagnose or to treat.

Eating disorders may be distantly recognized by most people as having some relation to anxiety, but they are probably more associated in people’s minds with things like peer pressure or obsessive compulsive behavior. But conditions like anorexia, bulimia or binge eating, while they are all associated with eating and a preoccupation with body weight or shape, can sometimes stem from traumatic experiences like child abuse or anxieties produced by family or peer pressure. Disorders that relate to eating behaviors are indeed anxiety disorders. Even if there are also some physical causes, the underlying anxieties are often the trigger for the conditions.

Sometimes an anxiety disorder manifests in very specific phobias, associated either with a traumatic event or a particular type of activity. One of those is the phobia about going to school that hits a surprising number of children between the ages of five and about twelve. Of the various sorts of anxiety disorders, this one can take the longest time to recognize and diagnose, because a child’s fears about school are often dismissed as unimportant. Yet a lack of diagnosis could result in adverse consequences for many years.

While a panic disorder is clearly a type of anxiety, it can often be mistaken for other sorts of anxiety disorders. It can simply stand on its own, meaning that finding a cause might be difficult, since panic attacks seem to come spontaneously without being obviously connected to anything. There are difficulties with all three of these disorders. With eating problems, there may be no discoverable root cause, while a phobia about school might not even get diagnosed. And panic attacks may seem to flood in from nowhere. Living with an anxiety disorder is challenging enough, but some disorders can be more challenging than others.

Sometimes anxiety disorders are hard to diagnose, and while the symptoms may suggest one type of condition, the problem is really a different one altogether. The more obscure or tricky disorders give doctors a run for their money, as they try to figure out exactly what’s wrong.

Question by Vampyredolly: Is there a solution for my problem [anxiety]?
I feel anxious in a car and often get the symptoms of a panic attack. I can usually calm myself down a little until the ride is over but for the whole day I feel like I’m on edge and have to focus on calming down. It’s so uncomfortable and I can’t just lay down/relax. I feel like I can’t breathe. I take magnesium and it can only help so much. I don’t know what to do or what to take. I’m doing progressive muscle relaxation or deep breathing. I do not want to be that person that avoids going out because of a previous attack. I’ve been pushing myself to go out even though I feel the impeding attack. I don’t feel well enough to eat as much as I used to. I don’t have insurance whatsoever so is there a way to get medication for my situation ? I want to be able to function normally again.
Yes, I’ve looked online.

Best answer:
