Is an eating disorder some form of obsessive compulsive disorder?
My friend said that she used to feel like she had obsessive compulsive disorder, and now she has the beginning serious signs of an eating disorder. Could the obsessive compulsive disorder have manifested in an eating disorder? She used to have to touch certain things a certain number of times, or count to certain numbers in her head when she saw a number above 50, ex. Any ideas?

Eating disorders are obsessive in a way, but they actualy get out of hand enough and to a point that the person affected can’t control it. And eating disorders are all about control…not eating is the symptom, not the disease.
I think it can be but isn’t always. I had OCD when they didn’t know what it was…but I think it came from taking my mother’s dexadrine and from being superstitious. I finally outgrew it..but it tries to pop up once in awhile. I mainly eat because I have PTSD and panic attacks and I think it will help…even though I know it doesn’t and it hurts me. ..so I’m not really fooling myself. I think with OCD it’s more like Raymond’s brother who has to touch food to his chin before he eats it. Maybe her OCD makes her nervous and her nerves cause her to eat. You’d think nerves would keep you from eating.I WISH!
A lot of overeating is just habit. Once you start doing it…it’s hard to stop…like any habit or addiction.
