There are several available. Depending on the person they all work differently. And should always be combined with therapy. As a side note – always keep in mind they are a tool not a cure.
Yes, there are many different meds available for General Anxiety/Panic disorder. Ask your doctor or do some research yourself on webmd.com. A common medication is Xanax and I didn’t gain any weight with that. I took Zoloft for depression and also noticed a huge weight gain! 30 pounds… yuck!
I’ve had good results with Paxil, and an emergency supply of low-dose valium which I almost never need to resort to anymore. Good luck!
lexapro works over night 20 mg.
the reason it’s probably not working anymore is because your body has gotten used to it and for the forty pounds being gained maybe you could work out after taking it or just asking a doctor what else to use. One other medicine you could use(I’m not sure if it will make you gain anything or not) is Prozac
I went researching and there’s a link saying things about relaxing practices and more.
If you have a panic disorder that comes and goes (meaning you have attacks or have times of high anxiety but the rest of the time you’re fine), then I can’t see why your doctor put you on Zoloft to begin with. It isn’t a medication that works immediately like an aspirin. Zoloft is an anti-depressant that has to build up in your system to work. It would be like trying to eat a banana to cure the leg cramp you’re having right now…just doesn’t cut it.
Definitely let your doctor know that the med isn’t working for you. Go to him with a list of what you want the medication to do and not do and see if there’s a perfect fit. If there isn’t, then you can weigh the options along the criteria you set. If your doctor is unwilling to work with you on this, then you may want to switch doctors. (Remember, YOU’RE hiring THEM!)
Also, don’t rely fully on the meds. They’re great to have, but you should be learning alternatives at the same time so that if a med does stop working or is unavailable to you for some reason then you’re not completely vulnerable.
As for meds, I think you’ve received some great answers on here, already. Xanax is a tranquilizer (same class as Thorazine, though, so be careful with side-effects) and is an as-needed med, and Paxil can be either.
Good luck!
These drugs are just nuts.
Why has the drug stoped working ?
Does your doctor not know?
Do you have any idea what these ssri drugs are doing to your brain?
Do they harm your brain in anyway?
Does the doctor not tell you anything about them ?
I do not know anybody who has not had problems with
ssri drugs.
If you stop taking them the panic will just come right back.
You are paying these doctors a fortune .
They make over 300,000 a year.
Do they not have your answers?
My uncle is a head doctor and he is nuts.
Has all kinds of strange personality quirks.
Left his wife for his secretery .
