It will help if you understand something about the nervous system. Function-wise, it’s divided according to whether control is voluntary or involuntary and according to what type of tissue is stimulated.
With Anxiety disorder and resultant panic attacks, the involuntary part of the nervous system is affected. This is the autonomic nervous system. It’s also called the visceral nervous system, because it controls smooth, cardiac muscle and glands, much of which make up the soft body organs (the viscera). The autonomic nervous system, or ANS, is further divided into the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).
The SNS promotes the fight-or-flight response that occurs with panic or extreme anxiety. The PNS acts as a balance for the SNS once a crisis has passed. This sub-system also stimulates activity of the digestive system.
That explains the relationship.
