How does an anxiety disorder cause the adrenal glands to affect the body?
I have an anxiety disorder….it is GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) stemming from panic disorder. If I am constantly worrying that I have a brain tumor (I’m 14) and that I’m going to have a seizure at any given moment, how can my adrenal gland affect my body? People in the medical field or with experience only please….thank you!

Good grief why would you think you have a brain tumor? Have them scan your head and put your fears to rest. Your adrenal gland will give you the fight or flight response. You have had to have been startled or scared at some point in your life. that reaction – the fast heart rate, rapid breathing, eyes dilate, and the feeling that you can take on the world. All due to adrenaline from the adrenal gland.
Anxiety disorder is not a medical disease.
Your constant worry affects your brain function, along with brain function comes the function of your thalamus, and in turn your hypothalamus. Hypothalamus acts as an regulator system for release of various hormones. Some of the hormones, primarily epinephrin (adrenalin) is created by the glands. If there is a regulatory mistake within your hypothalamus, affecting most of your endocrine system, adrenal glands may cause tachycardia ( fast heart beat) leading to possible strokes, and in worst cases heart failure. However, GAD, if you research it, is a genetic disorder and can be treated with various medications. It usually runs in the female part of the family, which means that your mother is likely to also have it. Check with your practitioner or an endocrinologist to give you more data.
