Child anxiety disorder is the most common psychiatric disorder in children. These disorders cause a great deal of disruption in the lives of all members of a family. If they are untreated in children, they most often contribute to serious psychiatric illnesses as the children become adolescences and adults.

The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that as many as one in eight children between the ages of nine and seventeen will suffer from an anxiety problem each year. The types of disorders begin at different ages, and studies indicate these disorders follow “developmental progression” from one anxiety to another, and then on to an affective disorder.

Children, much like adults, tend to have more than one kind of disorder at a time. About three-quarters of children with an anxiety disorder have other disorders including depression. Anxiety disorders may also occur along with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Tourette’s syndrome.

Tourette’s syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder that manifests itself with tics of speech and movement. Common physical outcroppings of the disorder include eye blinking, coughing, sniffing, throat clearing, and facial movements. This particular disorder usually decreases through adolescence and is seldom severe in adults.

Anxiety becomes a disorder in a child when a mismatch occurs between a threat and the child’s emotional and physical response. This overreaction can be influenced by brain chemistry, gender, family history, and age. Girls have higher rates of anxiety disorders than boys do, and this carries over into adulthood.

The most common anxiety disorder among small children is separation anxiety. Social anxiety follows this in adolescence and then reverts to panic disorders as they reach adulthood. This is the usual progression of disorders when not treated at the earliest possible age.

The child who has a parent with an anxiety disorder has a much greater chance of developing similar disorders than other children. The odds are stacked against the child before birth, because indicators point to a probability of three-and-a-half times greater chance than with children whose parents have no such disorder.

Heredity is a strong influence on anxiety disorders. For instance, one child in four who has obsessive-compulsive disorder has a family member with the same misfortune. Of the remaining three-quarters of test groups, almost all have a relative with some kind of anxiety disorder.

A child’s temperament and personality may affect the way he or she accepts new situations or stimuli. The same may be true of how he or she interprets sensations associated with anxiety and fear. These factors play an important role in the severity of disorders when they occur.

Not every child with fears develops a child anxiety disorder, but fear is a contributing reason. The biggest contributor, however, seems to be the inherited traits of family and environment. At any rate, treatment at an early age is important to fashion an adult who can function normally in society.

When you finish reading this article you will understand what a massive anxiety attack is, how it resembles a panic attack and some things you can do to cope with these attacks.

Massive anxiety attack

Most experts agree that there is fundamentally no difference between a massive anxiety attack and a panic attack. In fact, these two terms are used almost interchangeably.

The clearest signals of a massive anxiety attacks are physical, though there will also be mental and emotional issues.

The physical symptoms or signals of a massive anxiety attack can include chest pain, headache, dizziness or vertigo, shortness of breath, and sweating. These attacks are also often accompanied by a feeling of lightheadedness, nausea, hot or cold flashes, burning sensations, trembling or shaking, and a feeling of claustrophobia.

Hyperventilation and other signals

Massive anxiety attacks can also be identified by hyperventilation, which is very fast short breaths. These attacks can include tremors in the legs, a tingling spine, and the sensation that you are feeling a heart attack. You may also find that you are grinding your teeth or tensing other muscles repeatedly for long periods of time.

Panic attack or massive anxiety attack?

If you feel you are suffering from a massive anxiety attack or panic attack, your attacks will most likely consist of sudden, short periods of intense anxiety, mounting physiological arousal, stomach problems (such as a spastic colon) and discomfort that manifests itself in the kinds of symptoms listed above.

The American Psychological Association says that the symptoms of a panic attack or massive anxiety attack usually last just about 10 minutes. However, they can be as short as one to five minutes, while there are times when panic attacks may form a cyclic series of episodes, that last for an extended amount of time such as hours.

Different people experience massive anxiety attacks differently

Many people who experience a massive anxiety attack for the first time may call emergency services because they feel that they are having a heart attack or a nervous breakdown.

On the other hand, people who have had long-term experience with panic attacks may be able to completely “ride out” a panic attack with little or no obvious symptoms or external manifestations.

Treating a massive anxiety attack

If you have had a massive anxiety attack, you should definitely see your doctor. You will most likely need some prescription drugs such as Elavil, Inderal, Effexor, Valium, or Xanax.

For more information on these medicines as well as information about natural ways to handle anxiety attacks, href=”http://anxietyattacktreatments.info/”>just click here.
There are two treatments for panic attacks – medication and psychological therapies. Some people advocate the former while others support the former; some insist on a combination of the two. It all gets a bit confusing so how do you know which treatment course to follow?

First of all, there is no single approach that suits everybody when it comes to panic attacks and anxiety disorders. A cornerstone of effective therapy is that it is individually tailored to the person after a detailed study of the symptoms and when they occur. This should apply regardless of which panic attack treatment you choose to follow – and, in the end, it is your choice and you have to feel comfortable with it.

One of the most effective psychological approaches is that of cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT. Studies have shown CBT to be more successful in the long run than medication. To be more specific, more people who were treated with CBT remained panic free six months after treatment stopped than those who were on medication. A further study showed that while medication may be effective in treating the symptoms of panic attacks, the benefits stopped when the medication stopped. That is, people had to keep taking the drugs which then lead to unpleasant side effects.

CBT therapy requires work and commitment by the therapist and, more importantly, by the person seeking treatment. It’s not as easy as taking drugs a few times a day and the effects are not seen so quickly, but if you compare a drug free life free of panic attacks to taking medication for the rest of your life, then the advantages are obvious.

The focus of CBT is getting you to solve the problem yourself so you feel in control of your life again. This is very important as one of the biggest fears of those suffering from panic attacks is that they have lost control over themselves, often to the extent that they feel they are losing their minds. The ‘cognitive’ part of the therapy means changing the way you think through a very gradual desensitization process.

For example, let’s say your first attack occurred in a crowded room, at a party perhaps. Because the feelings were so intense and you were so frightened, you never want to experience it again. So, you go out of your way to avoid that situation – you make up excuses so as not to face a reoccurence. But this means that you are sitting at home by yourself when everyone else is at the party having fun. Not an ideal situation.

So, desensitization means taking very small steps firstly to get you used to the idea of going to a party (cognition) and then getting you there (behavior). Your first step might be getting dressed as if you are going. That’s it. Just dealing with the feeling that you are going is enough for one day. This may go on for several days until you feel comfortable with the thought that you are going to a party. When you are ready, you take the next step which may be getting dressed and then opening the front door as if you are on your way out. That’s it for the second step. When you’re ready, the third step is getting dressed, opening the front door and closing it. And so on.

While you are going through these steps at your own pace, you are also taught how to deal with the conflicting feelings you have. Controlling your breathing is instrumental here. Rapid breathing is often the catalyst for the other symptoms you experience during a panic attack so if you have techniques for keeping your breathing rate steady then this could be the difference between a slight twinge of anxiety and a full-blown attack.

Many therapists agree that 10-12 sessions are sufficient for most people to be able to manage their problem on their own. After the first five or six, improvement can be seen and the person begins to feel confident that they can regain control of their lives.A final step in the treatment process is to teach management techniques in case panic threatens to rear its ugly head in the future. Armed with this knowledge, it’s a very real possibility that panic attacks are a thing of the past.

Article by Steve Hill

Social phobia or social anxiety disorder is the constant fear of being criticized or evaluated by other people. People who suffer from social phobia are excessively self-conscious to the point where they feel that everyone around them is looking at them and judging them harshly. They become nervous, anxious and afraid of the world around them. For those with social phobia, everyday social situations like parties can become highly intimidating ordeals.

The key to the problem is that people with social anxiety want to be liked. They want very much to be seen as witty, dynamic and sociable. They want to fit in. However their anxiety about not performing well in public is so strong that it tends to cripple their best efforts. They freeze when they meet new people, particularly if they want these people to like them, for instance because they feel attracted to them or because they look up to them. They are afraid that their anxiety will be noticeable and this fear causes the anxiety to grow and turn into a vicious cycle.

Social anxiety usually develops early and without adequate treatment can be a chronic, unrelenting torturous condition. However, with suitable care, it is possible to overcome social phobia altogether.

Social anxiety disorder is an illness that customarily runs a chronic course and is often associated with other psychiatric disorders. The duration of social anxiety disorder is frequently lifelong. Yet in these times, there is no need for it to be. Significant improvements in the quality of life are within the reach of nearly all sufferers.

From a neurobiological point of view, low levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotomin are commonly associated with social anxiety. Research shows that people with social phobia are five times more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease in later life – Parkinson’s is caused by abnormally low levels of dopamine. From a pharmaceutical standpoint, drugs which boost levels of these neurotransmitters can provide very efficient treatment for social phobia.

As for psychological treatment, among the most effective are CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and CGBT (Cognitive Group Behavioural Therapy). In supportive environments, social phobics can learn to address their fears and can steadily overcome them. With the help of a therapist, they can develop strategies for coping and find a more constructive way of viewing their fears. The advantage of group therapy is that they can meet and interact with fellow sufferers, which will help them to realise that they are not facing their problems alone.

Health plans are purchased so that you may keep yourself and your family members protected in case any emergency medical treatment is needed. It is quiet natural that you cannot have lump sum amount ready at home and as such, having health insurance policy from before hand is of vital importance. Approach several insurance companies before choosing one and purchase your health plan only from an authentic company so as to get the benefits that are associated with your health policy.

5 Tips to find affordable health plan

Go through this article to know about the 5 tips to find affordable health plan.

Shop around to avail the best rate – While buying a health insurance policy, you will find that the different insurance companies offer you the same health plan but at different rates. As such, you need to shop around thoroughly and make a comparison between several policies so that you may be able to avail the best one according to your requirement.

Make sure the plan covers your doctors – Before purchasing a health insurance policy, it is very important that you find out whether or not the plan you are buying offers you the required coverage that you are actually looking for. Other than this, also make sure that the plan you buy covers your doctors so that you do not have to pay any medical costs from your own pocket.

Go through the free look clause – The insurance companies usually give you 10 days time period during which you may go through the policy that you have purchased. There are situations when you may feel that the policy you have bought is not suitable as per your need. In such a case, you can return the policy to the insurance company. You will get back your premium amount in this situation.

Purchase separate health plans – If you and your spouse is employed with the same company, there are high chances that both of you will have a single health insurance offered by the office. Skip the idea of having a single policy and buy separate health plans for each other so as to avail the benefits of the policy individually.

Do not compromise with the price – It is advisable that you should never compromise with the price of the policy when you decide to buy one. This is because most often a cheap health plan does not offer you the exact coverage and the needed benefits that you require in your policy. You will then have to bear the medical costs from your own pocket which may be quite uncomfortable for you.

You may also ask for help from your relatives and friends who can assist you in finding the right health plan. Since you have to pay a certain amount of premium on your policy, search for a health plan that will offer you the best benefits by which you will be able to get the value of your dollars.

Article by Fred Dotley

It is estimated that up to 3% of the United Kingdom’s population is likely to be affected by some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder, and if you have experienced a severe event in your life then you could potentially develop it.

One of the many symptoms experienced by post-traumatic stress sufferers is fearing for your life, especially if the event you suffered was a situation where your life was at risk, such as a fatal car accident. You could have had feelings that you were going to die, and your body’s response to this could have long lasting effects.

An effective way of dealing with any sort of stress in your life is talking about your feelings, and opening up and sharing your thoughts with someone else really can help you to come to terms with the events you have experienced. Sometimes we find it difficult to talk to our family and friends about our feelings, so it could be better to seek the help of a therapist who has specific knowledge and experience in a wide range of methods to cope with stress.

If you are someone who has been through a stressful event, it can be helpful and reassuring to know that there is always someone there to talk to if you need to, and a therapist really will understand what you’re going through.

One way in which a therapist can help you deal with post-traumatic stress is through stress management and therapy.
What You Should Do When Anxiety Attack Symptoms Arise

When anxiety attack symptoms strike, many people believe they are suffering from very serious, life threatening medical conditions. Understanding exactly what is going on with the body and what is creating the anxiety attack symptoms in the first place is not always an easy undertaking. There are certain things people who experience anxiety attack symptoms for the first time should do to be positive that anxiety is actually to blame.

Since anxiety attack symptoms can mirror heart attack symptoms, it is always advised that immediate medical attention be obtained to make the determination of the real cause. It is very difficult in many cases to distinguish an anxiety attack from an actual heart attack. A doctor should be the one to decide.

If anxiety attack symptoms are diagnosed as such, there are things people can do to help themselves if future attacks to present. It is important to remember, however, that some people might suffer from anxiety attack symptoms once in lifetime and then never have a repeat. For others, anxiety attack symptoms become a way of life as anxiety disorders develop and progress.

Treating anxiety attack symptoms often begins with medical intervention. A combination of prescription medications and therapy can greatly help people overcome attacks and resume normal, everyday activities. Unfortunately, if anxiety attack symptoms are left unchecked, some people might choose to isolate themselves from triggers. In extreme cases, this can lead to almost complete isolation. In some anxiety disorders, for example, people try to avoid all contact with the outside world, preferring the sanctuary of their own homes instead. This cuts them off from social activity, working, going to school and generally enjoying life to its fullest.

Beyond medical intervention to treat anxiety attack symptoms, some people find a number of alternative therapies quite useful. Some of the most common therapies used to treat anxiety attack symptoms involve those that can calm a person while an attack is in its onset phase and help them stop it in its tracks. These therapies include:

? Deep breathing/meditation. This can be a very effective means for helping some people with anxiety attack symptoms regain composure. The key to using this is to recognize onset signs and react immediately.? Facing fears. In the case of some phobias that bring on anxiety attack symptoms, psychologists will help patients face their fears to overcome them. This is generally only advised under close supervision by a trained therapist. If it is successful, a person might find they are completely rid of the condition and the attacks.? Hypnosis. Some hypnosis procedures have been shown to be effective in helping people overcome anxiety attack symptoms, or at least frequency.

Dealing with anxiety attack symptoms is not always an easy undertaking. When coming up with ways to overcome attacks is desired, a combination of therapy, medication and even alternative measures can help some people regain control over their lives.

Live and Learn: Anxiety Disorder Knowledge

Anxiety disorders are varied and include agoraphobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a number of other medical conditions. Most people do not learn about anxiety disorder normally, so it is important to put effort into learning about anxiety disorders if you or a loved one is diagnosed with one of these medical conditions.

The first place you can start when looking for information about anxiety disorders is, of course, your medical professional. If you think that you may have a problem with anxiety to the point where it is disrupting your life, you should see a doctor immediately and describe your symptoms. Your doctor will run tests and check your health in order to make a diagnosis, and be sure to save enough time during your appointment to ask questions about your anxiety disorder and your treatment options. If you feel rushed, make sure that you make another appointment in order to go over your anxiety disorder. If your doctor seems too rushed to talk to you, you are probably better off finding a new doctor who will make the time to help you.

Once you leave your doctor’s office, don’t go home-hit the library. There are hundreds of books devoted to anxiety disorders and you can find general information here, that has probably already been covered by your doctor, as well as specific information, including theories on the causes of anxiety disorders and the best treatment options. Along with the books you’ll find at the library, you will also find medical journals and magazines, which will provide you with the most up to date information in the medical community regarding anxiety disorders.

At home, you can continue your education online. The Internet is a wonderful resource when it comes to research just about any topic, including anxiety disorders. You can do this without leaving the home, which is an advantage to people who are suffering from anxiety disorders that are not yet under control. The Internet also allows you to connect to others dealing with the same conditions or in the health care world through email, forums, and chat rooms. However, remember that the information you find on the Internet may not always be the most accurate. Anyone can post on the Internet, from someone with a Ph.D. to your mailman.

No matter how you choose to research your anxiety disorder, it is simply important that you do so. Only when you have all of the information available to you can you truly be able to totally make the best decisions for your body and the treatment of this disorder. Be careful to find the health care professional that you trust. If you involve yourself in a therapeutic relationship, be sure you will be taught strategies that help you decrease anxiety and learn to relax. If medication is suggestion, become aware of all the side effects. Be sure that the side effects are not worse than the anxiety disorder! Be informed. This is your life and this is your body.

Panic and anxiety disorder affects close to 40 million people in the United States, and those totals reflect only the adult population. It is also estimated that 1 in every 10 children and adolescents will also struggle with some form of anxiety. So, where exactly can you turn for information and support if you suspect that you or a loved one may be affected?

Anxiety is a perfectly normal human emotion, but when anxiety becomes severe, persistent and gets in the way of normal functioning it could be an indication of an anxiety disorder. While there are many different types of anxiety disorders, including Generalized Snxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and Agoraphobia, the one characteristic that unifies all of them is a pervasive sense of fear and unwanted, uncomfortable thoughts. These thoughts and fears, when left untreated can cause serious problems – both personally and professionally – for the anxiety or panic sufferer.

Anxiety disorders have no known cause, and depending on who you talk to you about the origin of your particular disorder you may get several different responses. Severe stress, family history and major life changes, such as the loss of a loved one, are all thought to be contributing factors in anxiety disorders, and many doctors believe the condition may be caused by a chemical imbalance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain.

Where to Turn for Help

If you suspect that you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder, the first thing you should do is consult your family physician for a complete examination. Explain your symptoms in detail, including how these symptoms affect your daily functioning. If your doctor confirms the presence of an anxiety disorder, he or she may then refer you to a mental health professional for treatment. Usually this treatment will consist of a combination of prescription medication, to help ease the symptoms of your anxiety, and psychotherapy designed to help you deal with the underlying cause of those symptoms.

Despite how an anxiety disorder can sometimes make you feel, you are not alone. Depending on where you live and the type of anxiety disorder you are coping with, you may be able to find a support group of people experiencing the same type of challenges that you are facing. If there isn’t a support group in your area, there are many online support groups that may be able to help.

How to Find Out More about Panic and Anxiety Disorders

In the past, information about anxiety disorders was hard to come by, but with the popularity of the internet all of that has changed. There are literally thousands of online sites, including the one operated by the National Institute for Mental Health, or NIMH.com, dedicated to providing current and useful information to those suffering from all types of anxiety disorders and phobias.

Living with an anxiety disorder can be a frightening and frustrating experience, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one. If anxiety is beginning to cause problems in your life, seek out medical attention and support immediately, and take the first step towards reclaiming your life.

Article by Carolyn Miller

Abnormal and pathological fear and anxiety is just some of the different forms that covers anxiety disorder. As of this time, the psychiatric diagnostic criteria has recognized a wide range of variety of anxiety disorders.

Anxiety disorders can be present from an early age or begin suddenly after a triggering event. This would affect everyone regardless of their age and gender. Anxiety disorders are prone to flare up at times of high stress and are frequently accompanied by physiological symptoms such as headache, sweating, muscle spasms, palpitations, dizziness, fear, nervousness, worry, dread and hypertension, which in some cases lead to fatigue or even exhaustion. This type of anxiety that happens constantly or too intense it may very well cause the person to feel distracted, tense, always on the alert, and preoccupied.

In terms of discourse, anxiety and fear are often used interchangeably. However, in clinical usage, they have distinct meanings. Anxiety is defined as an unpleasant emotional state for which the cause is either not readily identified or perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable, whereas fear is an emotional and physiological response to a recognized external threat. In lighter terms, anxiety is unidentifiable and is usually perceived and fear is otherwise.

Researches have also indicated that anxiety disorders are often tracked with those who has a family history of anxiety disorders, specifically certain types of disorders.

However, anxiety is a natural human reaction. Oftentimes, this serves as the important basic survival function of a person, which it can benefit a person when he feels or perceive danger.

In case the mind of a person react to threat or danger, he will automatically trembling hands or legs, a queasy stomach, sweaty palms, tense muscles, and a faster heartbeat and breathing. These sensations are the body’s normal response to threat. These responses are caused by the adrenaline rush as well as other chemical reactions in our body that will allow us to make a quicker reaction against danger.

According to research, anxiety disorders are the most common of emotional disorders. It fills people’s lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear and can grow progressively worse if not treated. The good news however is that treatments for anxiety disorders are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives.

The anxiety disorder symptoms often happen abruptly and gradually. But it is common for those with anxiety disorder to not know what’s causing the anxiety they have. Sometimes the feeling of doom and apprehension just come out of nowhere.

The different signs of anxiety disorders would include:

*Uncontrollable obsessive thoughts *Having feelings of overwhelming fear and panic *Intrusive memories that are painful recurring nightmares *Nausea, sweating, muscle tension, and other uncomfortable physical reactions *Feelings of apprehension or dread *Trouble in concentrating *Having a jumpy and tense feeling *Pounding heart *Sweating *stomach upset or dizziness, frequent urination or diarrhea *A feeling that you are losing your breath *Insomnia, fatigue, headaches, muscle tensions, and tremors and twitches *Anticipation of the worst and watching for signs of danger *A feeling that your mind has gone blank, irritability and restlessness

Fortunately, much progress has been made in the last two decades in the treatment of people with anxiety disorders. Although the exact treatment approach depends on the type of disorder, a combination of medication and psychotherapy may be used to treat anxiety disorders.

Article by Kathy

General anxiety disorder is a common problem, but doesn’t get talked about so much. In fact, millions of us are affected by some form of anxiety disorders. In this article I’ll talk about what this elusive disorder is, and what you can do about it.

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD?

Virtually everyone has occasional bouts of anxiety, or anxious thought patterns. In contrast, GAD is a state of periodic and elevated anxiety, often characterized by excessive thinking and dwelling on the “what ifs”. As a result, you may feel that there’s no way out of the vicious cycle of worry. You probably have this disorder if you have recurring anxiety, as opposed to occasional worry.

What happens when you have GAD?

To illustrate how it works, we’ll use the analogy of a water faucet. If a faucet is working properly when turned off, we experience a relaxed home environment – which equates to a relatively anxiety-free existence. However, if the faucet has a leak and is dripping periodically, you could equate this disruptive dripping noise to that of someone with general anxiety.

Over time the pipe remains intact, however the leak gets worse. What was a minor disturbance can escalate into a loud, steady stream, which can no longer be ignored. This situation is how general anxiety disorder feels – it demands your attention.

Worse yet, this unstable situation is a breeding ground for the pipe to burst. In our analogy, this is when the disorder can turn into a panic attack.

What causes GAD?

General anxiety disorder is caused by recurring anxiety:

Repressed emotions A chemical imbalance Nutritional imbalance Physical, mental or emotional exhaustion caused by stress

What’s are your best treatment options? Once you know the causes of anxiety, you can work to reduce or eliminate anxiety entirely.

Here are four steps that you can take to help eliminate GAD:

Educate yourself. There are many excellent holistic books and classes that help reduce or eliminate anxiety by teaching the principles of the mind-body-emotion connection, as well as anti-stress techniques.

See a qualified medical professional to get a diagnosis in the event that you have a nutritional or chemical imbalance. You may want to do one or all of the following: a.) a blood screening, b.) a checkup with your physician, and c.) discuss your situation with a psychiatrist (Ph.D.) who understands medications. Your doctor can help you select the appropriate course of action if required.

Meet with a therapist or support group, which can assist you by teaching healthy ways to deal with conflict, rather than repressing emotions.

Use exercise as a Stress Reducer: Exercise produces the good hormones, such as endorphins, that keeping your mind and body balanced. Some people benefit from Yoga, a practice that incorporates relaxation techniques into exercise and movement.

While it takes commitment to identify and consider the best general anxiety disorder treatment that suits your lifestyle and your needs, it’s well worth it! Many people who treat their disorder proactively report full recovery. For you, this means you’ll be rewarded with a better quality of life, and a greater sense of peace.

Article by Kuno Tierra

Spa treatments are a popular method of relaxing, widely used in Greek and Roman cities which continue to exist as a retreat from the demands of modern life. From the third century Baths of Caracalla, one of approximately 900 in Rome to the naturally occurring hot springs found in Bath, England (UK) these centres were designed to provide medicinal bathing for a thankful public.Modern spas have much in common with their ancient counterparts offering treatments to help reduce levels of stress, anxiety or nervous tension, the treatments have been refined and re-designed to provide a much needed practical solution to help the body and mind recover.Research from as early as the 1960s indicated there are links between stress and both physical and mental health, further studies have shown that relaxation can benefit those suffering from depression, aches and pains, or headaches. We have developed our own responses to increased stress or anxiety levels, these vary enormously between individuals whilst some of us are more effective at relaxing we all may have experienced occasions where an increase in our anxiety levels are easily triggered. Our emotional and physical reactions to stress are partly determined by the sensitivity of our sympathetic nervous system. Stress will result in the sympathetic nervous system releasing chemicals into our blood stream that help to prepare us for a ‘flight or fight’ response, this can leave people feeling on edge – a useful system in emergency situations when you must be alert, but if activated constantly it can leave you feeling low on energy and in a state of constant tension. Extreme cases can lead to emotional burnout or complete exhaustion.By relaxing we can reduce stress levels by helping to release some of the body’s naturally produced stress reducing chemicals resulting in a calming physical effect that will help bring balance to the body and mind whilst recharging our energy levels. A variety of relaxation techniques exist from deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and massage therapy.Massage therapies are designed to relax and energise providing a feeling of deep relaxation, as the muscles in the body relax it also helps the mind to relax. There are a number of massage types, each with their own focus on a part of the body for example shiatsu is designed to manipulate the body’s pressure points bespoke London spa packages can offer tailored treatment.

Social phobia is the fear of social situation and the interaction with other people that can automatically bring on feeling of self-consciousness, judgment, inferiority and evaluation. It would be the fear of speaking in front of groups, whereas generalized indicates that the person is anxious, nervous and uncomfortable in almost all social situations. Even some individuals are so frightened of meeting other people, they don’t step out from the house and even answering the phone creates enormous feeling of unease. It usually occurs at the age of between 14 to 25 yrs. Some people get a little self-conscious at times or feel somewhat shy around others, but it significantly worsens the quality of life. People with it can usually interact easily with family and a few close friends. But meeting new people, talking in a group, or speaking in public can cause their extreme shyness to kick in.
People in this world are equal, there is no one better than the other, I am like you and you are like me, that’s what you have to know before asking about this case…!!!

What is social phobia!!!!

It is the fear of people for unjustified reasons and it is a cursed case which affects the human being negatively and accompanies him since the childhood specially in the early ages starts from the age of 12 till 19 years of old which we usually call it (Adolescence) this stage which is considered the character building stage for humans.

It is a case before other conditions like the depression, anxiety, panic, fear of the unknown and that is to know that those cases are connected to each other, it can affect the person if he couldn’t find the appropriate treatment for it, we can’t deny that there are some cases affect the person after that age but in the end it is just one case called the social phobia

The signs of this case are many and it is different from one person to the other but there are major signs in which the affected guy can find it himself and it can be noticed from the people around him and we can mention one like: the inability to talk with others and the fear of criticism and mocking ,Fear of reading in front of people or even just few of them, avoidance of attending wedding ceremonies and birthdays because of the fear of the people ‘s looks towards him or talking to him, avoidance of talking in the cellular phone in front of others and putting the phone mode on silet or even shutting it off completely to avoid the embarrassing situations, not to practive in social activities whether in the university or work or even in the house too, fear of asking about something so as not to get embarresed , avoid eating or drinking in restaurants or might go to a restaurant but sit in one of the corners to avoids people’s eyes on him while eating, sitting in the back seats in the meetings , lectures or theatres to avoid feeling that people are looking at him.

Do you know that 70% of the people are having this infirmity but with a varying proportions, and it might just be very low proportion in which it might not be felt, unlike some people who can get effected significantly , and do you know that the people who are suffering from the social phobia around 80% of them are suffering from other mental illness as we stated before?

What are the symptoms of the social phobia?

Social phobia symptoms are classified to psychiatric and physical symptoms. The psychiatric symptoms: they are the symptoms that accompanies this case and increases till it turns to be diseases and mental disorders like: feeling insecurity, tension and worry, losing self confidence, shaking and panic, hesitating in taking decisions, the social isolation, getting tired from work and lower productivity. The physical symptoms: increase in heart palpitations , feeling tired and fatigue quickly, feeling pain in some parts of the body, lack of concentration, weakness of memory, dizziness, dyspnea and increase in the blood pressure. Those are some symptoms which accompanies the person who is suffering from the social phobia and those reasons can vary from a person to the other depends on the strength of the case, its degree and the age of the person..

What are the reasons of the social phobia!!!

Some scientists and doctors mentioned that this case has particular reasons experienced by the patient himself in an earlier age and it accompanies him till the age of the puberty and some of them has faced situations in his life which can’t be forgotten and it has a negative impact on him specially in the childhood in which we can mention that this is the difficult start to build the person and promote his self confidence in the adulthood, the kid who can’t read infornt of others will face a real difficulties to read in front of others also when he gets older and it will become a fear by age , and who ever didn’t sit and talk in front of his friends it will be difficult for him for sure in the subsequent years-old , and here comes the role of the family in building this small kid and removing all the small fears from him so it doesn’t get bigger in the subsequent years.Yes..The family rule is really big in the education because of its positive and negative impact for the baby’s ages,..violence, flogging and mockery put fear ,reduction and poor self confidence in the child and this is the most negative reason in building the personality. On the contrary the feeling of the peace of mind and the over tenderness gives the kid his self confidence, opinion and self-assertion and talking like his friends because there is always who is giving him the absolute protection and comfort so you can see the child in the beginning doesn’t care about anything because there Is always who can take care better than him..Those are some reasons which accompanies the child from his childhood till his youth and which affects the build and the refine of his personality, but the surprise is in another reason which is (the failure)Failure also is one of the most important reasons for the fear because of its negative impact on the future of the individual life , because the human by his nature can think, make and create but in the end sometimes he collides with the failure , some talented people has this capacity, he fears of failing in his work, study ,creations, inventions and everything, failure creates in him the worry , tension and hesitation so he can’t move a step forward till it becomes his capacity and his disease can increase and develops till it becomes mental illness and the reason for that is fear of other people.Who do you fear?!! Who is waiting for your failure?!! Aren’t you like them?!!Yes..These are the reasons which destroys our life early and destroys our happiness if we didn’t find the solution or the appropriate treatment till we get rid of that disease which is the key of mental illness..

The social fear and its treatment

We already found that for each case of the previous cases there is a reason and if the reasons is reversed this will be the treatment, briefly if your fear people so you have to face them and if you are suffering from a specific problem so you have to set yourself free from that problem as soon as you can and you must break this psychological barrier. The psychiatrist in that case will not treat you and I will tell you honestly he will not give you except some medicine and sedatives which will let you feel lazy and sleepy and will give you some instructions which will help you to change the course of your life and beat this problem, just be confident that the treatment will not be except from yourself and here are some tips for you and it is from a real experiments of people who changed their cases because of their strength and continuation only:1-Be sure that other people are not looking at you in the negative way that you think and make sure that you are the only one who is thinking in that way.2-try when you speak just think only about the subject which you are talking about and try to concentrate in it as much as you can , think even in a moment that these people around you are not existing and they have no value and plant the confidence in yourself in that time and take courage3-try to begin your talk with a smile and joke and make people smile for you and that will reduce the tension and remove the barrier of fear from the beginning..4-inhale the fresh air and take a deep breath if you felt any tension or confusion5-you have to always feel self confident and tell yourself that you are strong enough to beat any problem in the most difficult times6-try to have a plan always in which you can go hiking in the gardens and walk at night during the week and daily for at least 2 hours.7-try not to spend all the time in your house and don’t be isolated alone in it specially in your void time8-don’t convince yourself to failure but just say I didn’t succeed yet, I am telling you honestly if you fear from failure so you are talented more than some other people and you have to continue till you reach your goal9-begin with drawing your future and plan for it even for years…Because in the end you will succeed and the people will say that you succeeded.10-learn from your mistakes and don’t blame yourself and don’t give up till you do what you want, just have self confidence in yourself

in the end you don’t need to waste other years of your life because you choose the isolation from people and you don’t want to waste the happy moments in your life while you are with your family or your kids or even yourself..Put a limit to that and from here you have to know that you are your own doctor, just have confidence in yourself..

Competitive golf brings out both excitement and stress which elevates the body’s ability to perform at a peak level. Players must first learn to acknowledge and then to accept these excited feelings allowing them to keep confident while pressured. Stress can be a very good thing during a competition. It can help you to perform at your peak by motivating you to try harder, however stress out of control can get in the way, preventing automatic smooth flowing golf swings. Additionally stress run a muck breaks concentration and focus making it difficult to perform your best.

Successful competitors must learn to be in the drivers seat when it comes to anxiety. There are a number of skills that can help golfers manage the demands of competition on the golf course. One of the more useful and easily learned are relaxation techniques. Learning and using relaxation skills will give you the ability to identify and control anxieties’ detrimental effects. Learning to utilize relaxation techniques which elicit the “relaxation response” is beneficial for golfers wanting to perform their best and enjoy their game. The relaxation response is the counterpart to the fight-or-flight response. It occurs when the body no longer perceives danger, and the autonomic nervous systems functioning returns to normal — unwanted muscular tension decreases and the mind calms toward a desired focus.

Over coming the negative effects of golf anxiety takes place by first learning progressive muscle relaxation and then cue controlled muscle relaxation. PGA Master Professional Dave Cahill has taught and witnessed many players improving their scores simply by learning to relax. You can elicit the relaxation response on the course while playing in as little as 30 seconds allowing you to use this skill at any location and at any time. Dave suggests golfers follow stress reduction methods and strategies outlined in The Relaxation & Stress Reduction Workbook. The book details easy, step-by-step techniques based on the latest research. Having benefited from Applied Relaxation Training himself Dave frequently advocates the training for students who compete in high pressure situations. Dave notes that students who have learned rapid relaxation methods quickly improve both their skills and their enjoyment of the game.. In addition to the benefits of an improved golf game learning these relaxation techniques have benifted players in other parts of their lives too. Initial benefits from practicing relaxation techniques will take place immediately with complete training learned in a matter of weeks.

An anxiety disorder is a serious mental illness characterized by constant and overwhelming fear and apprehension. While everyone feels nervous from time to time in new or challenging situations, the degree of nervousness suffered by someone with an anxiety disorder is overwhelming and often disabling. Panic and anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorders. It’s estimated that one in four Americans will suffer debilitating anxiety during his or her life. The most common types of anxiety disorders are:

1) Generalized anxiety disorder – chronic unrealistic fear and worry that are not focused on any specific thing or situation. This is the most common anxiety disorder among adults.

2) Social anxiety disorder – a fear and avoidance of public embarrassment or disapproval. People with social anxiety are overwhelmingly worried and self conscious in everyday social situations.

3) Obsessive compulsive disorder – involves recurring obsessions (distressing and intrusive thoughts and/or images) and urges to perform repetitive routines or rituals. A common example is someone who obsesses about germs and repetitively washes his or her hands.

4) Post-traumatic stress disorder – evolves out of a traumatic incident such as a sexual assault, war, or natural disaster. PTSD symptoms frequently include anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, anger and depression.

5) Panic disorder – involves brief, unprovoked attacks of terror, accompanied by physical symptoms like shaking, dizziness, heart palpitations, sweating, and trouble breathing.

6) Separation anxiety – excessive and inappropriate feelings or anxiety when separated from a particular person or place. Separation anxiety is a normal part of childhood development, but poses a problem if it occurs in late childhood or adulthood.

7) Specific phobias – An intense and overblown fear and avoidance of a specific thing or situation, such as spiders, bridges, heights, or flying.

While each anxiety disorder has its own unique set of symptoms, they all tend to be characterized by repeated negative thoughts, feelings of fear and uneasiness, nightmares and trouble sleeping, and physical symptoms like nausea, headache, dry mouth, muscle tension, palpitations, cold or sweaty hands and difficulty staying still.

While scientists aren’t sure what causes anxiety disorders, they believe it’s a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including stress and trauma. Anxiety disorders tend to run in families, and are suspected to be connected to an imbalance of the brain chemicals which control mood, much like depression. Caffeine and alcohol contribute to anxiety, as can some over the counter and herbal remedies.

Fortunately, anxiety disorders are among the most treatable of mental health conditions, and are commonly addressed with a combination of medication and therapy. Antidepressant drugs are generally the first medication of choice, in particular SSRI antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Depression medication works by affecting the concentration and activity of neurotransmitters in the brain, addressing both anxiety and the depression that so often accompanies it. Some patients may be prescribed an anti anxiety medication such as a benzodiazepine along with their anti depression medications. If necessary, beta blockers may also be prescribed to minimize physical anxiety symptoms such as shaking and a rapid heartbeat.

Combining antidepressant medication with therapy offers the most effective and rapid relief for anxiety disorders. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is generally considered the most appropriate type of psychotherapy. Relaxation therapy is also helpful, and many anxiety sufferers report that they benefit from meditation.

			    About the Author

Lynn feels strongly about access to affordable medicine, and advises that antidepressant drugs from Canada are more affordable. She recommends Big Mountain Drugs as a reliable Canadian pharmacy from which to buy Lexapro 10 mg and buy generic Lexapro.

Article by Lelliot Peters

If you find it hard to get to sleep at night then relax, help is at hand. There are simple, sleeping techniques that have been known about for ever.

Stress responsesSleep is not simply about what happens or doesn’t happen at night or when you go to bed. The quality and amount of sleep you get depends on the sort of activity that goes on during the day.You may not be someone with a pressurised job rushing from meeting to meeting, solving problems on the go with technology battering your senses, but even if you’re not in a permanent state of hyperarousal during the waking hours you may still be prone to the stresses and strains of daily life. You’re body’s stress response system is pumping out stress and arousal hormones and your body is working harder and running hotter than normal. Your mind and body never reach a state of quiet repose and harmony that is important to recover from the daily grind.

Don’t forget to “relax hard” too.The maxim “work hard and play hard” is a common and popular one these days and even though we have technology working for us we seem to have less and less time to accomplish our goals. (Or maybe our goals have just become too unrealistic.)Working hard and playing hard is fine but what’s missing is “relaxing hard” or maybe that should be “relaxing soft”.Relaxing techniques have been known about and practised for millennium and their overall benefits have been understood for as long, so why do we pay less attention to them these days?Apart from getting more out of your waking lives, learning to relax properly can have a dramatic effect on your ability to get to sleep and stay asleep. After activating your stress responses during the day, relaxation techniques such as meditation, progressive muscle relaxation and yoga can be affective ways to rebalance the systems of the mind and body.

Meditation comes and goes as a popular form of “activity”. It usually conjures up images of bald men in orange garb with legs crossed, quietly chanting but it needn?t be. In fact the essence of meditation is breathing and focused awareness, something that doesn’t need a lot of practise and for the beginners there is almost an immediate benefit. So not only should you start looking forward to sleeping better but you may be surprised to discover huge depths of peace and tranquillity within you.

Yoga has claimed a more stable reputation as a relaxation technique that promotes strength, health, inner peace as well as combating insomnia. There are classes available at most gyms these days the different styles of yoga available are extensive.

Hatha – promotes physical and spiritual harmony – is good for unwinding before bed but done during the day also promotes good quality sleep – is one of the best types for the beginner to join.Lyengar – is very precise using 12 tightly controlled postures – excellent for muscle tone, posture and inner peace.Kundalini – uses chanting, specific breathing as well as postures – good for prenatal women and those of us after a youthful look.Sivananda – uses incense scented rituals, concentrates more on the inner you – good for alleviating worries and negative thoughts.Astanga – is energetic and includes a cardiovascular workout – is quite demanding but offers fat-burning and toning.Bikram – uses a room heated to around 38c (100f) so the body becomes more flexible ? gets rid of toxins whilst contorting the body.

BreathingFor any relaxation technique it’s important to breathe; yes, I know, it’s important to breathe to stay alive but that’s an innate reflex action for survival. By “breathe” I mean to focus on filling up your lungs on the intake and then actually feel the breath as you exhale. That doesn’t mean to say that breathing should be an effort in any way, it should be L.E.S.S., that is; light, easy, soft and slow. The fast paced lives we lead tend to disrupt our rhythms so that like events during the day our breathing becomes fast, disorganised, irregular and effortful. Like our appointments we hurry from one breath to the next making us feel anxious, rushed, intolerant and impatient. This is not conducive to a peaceful life or a sound sleep.

So try this when you go to bedLie on your back, arms and legs slightly apart. Instead of counting sheep imagine a favourite place of yours; it may be the sun-kissed shores of a South Pacific island (that?s if you are lucky enough to have been to one). It’s a place of serenity. Imagine all the sounds and scents as well. Then concentrate on your breathing; don’t forget L.E.S.S. is more. Now, as you breathe, feel all the trials and tribulations of the day leaving you. See you in 7.5 hours.

There are other relaxation techniques and many other sleeping techniques that people use for effective sleep promotion. But as well as sounder sleep, most people who use these relaxation methods find they have a general feeling of well being and are better able to manage the trials, stresses and worries of everyday modern life.
