Putting aside all the pointless arguments about whether people should get so anxious, the practical reality is that they do. If this seriously disrupts their ability to lead normal lives, then something should be done. Common humanity requires that society makes reasonable provision for their treatment. The pharmaceutical industry would have us believe drugs are the best answer to all our problems and, when it comes to dealing with anxiety disorders, our doctors have a mass to choose from. We start of with antidepressants. Yes, the name apparently suggests their function is limited to treating depression, but they can be just as useful in treating anxiety disorders. So now your doctor decides which variety to try out on you. There are the SSRIs and the tricyclics, and do not forget the MAOIs. Then we get into the anti-anxiety drugs, most often derived from the benzodiazepines. If those do not take your fancy, there are always the beta-blockers. The cabinet in your bathroom can be filled to overflowing (subject to deciding whether all these options are covered by your health plan).

But, for all this choice, there is one inconvenient truth. All the independent research evidence (that’s the research not paid for by the pharmaceutical industry) shows psychotherapy to be more effective than medication. The problem with trying to treat an emotional problem with a pill is there cannot be a conversation about why you are feeling the emotion and how you are going to deal with its consequences. Talking through the problems with a mental health specialist has the best success record in restoring quality of life and avoiding a relapse into an anxiety state. For a start, it treats you as a human being. You become the focus of attention. People listen to you and advise you on how to improve the quality of your life. In the current healthcare market, you see your doctor for a few minutes, collect a prescription and pick up the bill on the way out. People respond well when they believe their interests are being taken seriously. Their treatment is progressed rapidly if the advice they receive is seen to be useful. There is no point in advising people out of books. This has to be a hands-on approach to changing each person’s attitudes and habits. The best form of psychotherapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). “Cognitive” because you want people to understand their emotional responses to different situations. Only if they understand why they feel anxious can they begin the process of changing their responses. “Behavioral” because the therapist will train people to change the way they behave. This means forcing people to confront the situations in which they feel anxious or fearful, and teaching them how to react more positively.

CBT usually lasts over a period of about twelve weeks. For most people, it works best on a one-to-one basis but, in cases of social phobia, part of the training can be in groups to help people become more used to social gatherings. Before starting on the course, it is useful for people to take xanax. This brings the anxiety levels down and provides a window of opportunity when they may learn new habits. But, for the majority of people, the use of xanax should be quickly tapered off. The aim is to enable people to respond more confidently without having to rely on a drug. Only then can people actually begin to feel confident about their own abilities rather than as people propped up by pills.

Anyone who has ever experienced panic attacks shudders at the thought of it. It is such an intense feeling that you may sometimes compound it as a heart attack. Even though medical practitioners refer to panic attacks as nothing more than sudden adrenalin rush through your body, you can only feel the symptoms that prevail like dizziness, racing heart, illusory feelings, feeling uncontainable, hyperventilation to name a few. It is very important to seek help for panic attacks at the very initial stage.

In most cases it happens that a person, who has had the first bout of panic attack, is so terrified, that the inherent fear may trigger the probabilities of subsequent panic attacks. Although it is important to evaluate the causes that led to panic attacks before dealing with panic attacks, patients sometime complain that they aren’t too sure why they felt that way. Some even make a particular place or the situation responsible for their anxiety. Seeking help for panic attacks .

Panic attack is a result of anxiety disorder or the effect of prolonged stress and worrying about a certain situation. Studies have shown that panic attack grips only when the level of stress and anxiety overflows the brim of sustenance. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to seek help for dealing with panic attacks at the very onset. While medication is possibly the most practiced way by doctors, it has its share of side-effects and preferably should be considered as the last option.

Other popular treatments followed by people for dealing with panic attacks is cognitive and behavioral therapy, exercise and various relaxation techniques like Yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, etc. However, most of these techniques offer no more than temporary relief. You should rather opt for anxiety release methods and other self help for panic attacks that can help uproot your fears and give you the right support.

One of the foremost techniques to keep panic away is to find the root cause of your anxiety that is responsible for blooming into panic attacks in later stages. Try to reason your anxiety – Is the basis behind your inherent fears and worries so huge, or is it your constant worry that is building up your fears? Finding an answer to these questions can definitely help you a lot in dealing with panic attacks.

Anxiety Release Methods for Dealing with Panic Attacks

There may be several reasons that can trigger panic attacks. Some of you may be scare of public speaking, while another may panic while driving; however, you must remember that it is not always being in the situate that leads to panic attacks. Studies have shown that most cases of panic attacks are due to secondary reasons; i.e. people suffering from anxiety disorder constantly create a world of nervousness – ‘what if I fail’, ‘what if I faint’, ‘will people laugh at me’, ‘will I be able to live up to the expectations’ etc.

However, once you learn self-help methods to keep panic away, dealing with panic attacks will be a lot easier; and you can easily divert from all the situations that may bring on panic attack. You must build the confidence within yourself that you are no longer worried or anxious about getting on to a certain situation – it might not be as easier said than done. Still self-belief and an attitude to care less for instances that build anxiety, can matter a lot while you seek help for panic attacks.

Self-help anxiety release methods help you in dealing with panic attacks not by running away from situations, but teach you to move towards your fears – break the jinx and come out a winner.

People are different and so are the symptoms of any condition including anxiety disorders. However, there’s a general set of signs that can help you learn about the problem, and the following symptoms will make it easier for you to identify anxiety problems.

The feeling of fear and anxiety are nothing strange for most of us, as we all experience anxiety from time to time. Writing an important exam, going to a serious business meeting or attending a job interview – these are just examples of situations where most people experience anxiety. And you certainly remember the emotions and sensations that you go through at moments like these. It’s perfectly normal to experience such things when the circumstances are stimulating such a respond. But things go wrong when anxiety appears for no apparent reason.

Healthcare professionals do not deal with everyday anxiety, but focus on what is known as anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders describe general abnormality in the occurrence of anxiety signs when there is no evident reason for this to happen. Moreover, with anxiety disorders the feelings of dread and fear can be more intense and uncontrollable, taking place much more often than normally. If the condition progresses it can impede the normal activity of an individual and requires immediate treatment.

Anxiety disorders are usually connected with the mechanisms triggering the so called flight or fight response. It is an old physiological mechanism developed during evolution that puts the body into a special mode when there’s a direct or indirect threat to one’s well-being (potential harm, risk of failure, potential humiliation, etc.) This mechanism didn’t change much as the civilization developed, only it began to be triggered by circumstance other than our ancient ancestors faced during their lives. However, when an anxiety disorder develops, this response gets triggered by quite odd circumstances that normally don’t pose any threat at all.

According to the actual situations that trigger this mechanism, doctors distinguish different types of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, specific phobia, separation anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, and selective mutism.

The circumstances in which the anxiety is manifested differ from one type of disorder to another, but in general the symptoms are the same:

discomfort in the stomachdiarrheadry mouthincreased heart rate or palpitationschest discomforttroubled breathingdizzinessabnormal urinationdifficulty swallowing

Psychological symptoms that are usually linked to anxiety disorders include:

sleep disordersirritabilityconcentration problemsfear of going crazy or dyingfeeling surreal and inability to control own behavior

Such symptoms can be a serious sign of an anxiety disorder and require adequate treatment. Drugs like Valium can relieve the symptoms and decrease the frequency and intensity of anxiety attacks. However, you should first discuss the use of Valium or any other prescription medications with your doctor.

Anxiety attacks are treatable, so you don’t have to worry about it much. Of course, experiencing anxiety attacks is not very pleasant, but if you go to your doctor and run a course of treatment, these anxiety problems can simply turn into unpleasant memories you have.

Article by John Scott

People are different and even the same health problems can manifest through different signs from one person to another. Fear and anxiety are quite common in our everyday life. It’s very hard to find a person who never experienced anxiety and worry before an important meeting or exam. Remember your feeling before going to a job interview, or simply walking down a dark street in the middle of the night. Anxiety is the most common companion in such situation and it keeps us on alert for things unexpected.

However, normal anxiety does not pose any interest for mental health specialists. Things get dramatic when the anxiety response occurs for no apparent reason and stays for much longer periods of time than it usually does in normal circumstances. If anxiety becomes frequent in its nature and occurs periodically for a long time, it is automatically transferred to the state of a disorder.

Anxiety disorders are generally described as an overwhelming and periodical feeling of anxiety that occurs in situations that otherwise do not pose any danger, and which is persistent for longer periods of time, interfering with everyday activities. An individual suffering from any form of anxiety disorders is unable to control the feelings of dread, fear and worry. And to add injury to insult, people who suffer from anxiety disorders are usually well aware of the fact that their feelings do not have any logic reasons, but are unable to do anything about it.

The most common forms of anxiety disorders include conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, separation anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, selective mutism and various types of specific phobia. Different types of anxiety disorders have different symptoms, and even the same disorder can be described differently by two persons suffering from it.

However, the physical signs of an anxiety disorder are pretty much common for all types of disorders. They are described by the triggering of the flight or fight response and are manifested through increased heart rate, faster breathing, adrenaline rush, hypertension and other symptoms.

People suffering from anxiety disorders usually report the following symptoms associated with their conditions:- Abdominal discomfort- Diarrhea- Dry mouth- Rapid heartbeat or palpitations- Tightness or pain in chest- Shortness of breath- Dizziness- Frequent urination- Difficulty swallowing

Psychological symptoms associated with anxiety disorders include:- Sleep disorders- Irritability- Lack of concentration- Fear of going crazy or dying- Feeling unreal and not in control of your behavior

If you experience any of these symptoms you might want to address your doctor for a consultation. Even if it’s a sign of anxiety disorder, it doesn’t automatically allow you to take Valium or any other drugs without prescription. Only your doctor can prescribe the right treatment and dosage. Besides drugs like Valium there are other ways to treat anxiety disorders, and your physician will surely help you select the most effective and optimal treatment course for your problem. Any anxiety disorder can be treated, so keep your worries at bay and go to your doctor when you experience any signs of such conditions.

These anxiety sessions may lead to other situations as when a person refuses to leave the house for fear of a panic attack. This is fundamentally the answer to what is a anxiety disorder.Anxiety disorders can impact close to ten % of the population at any given time. Ladies are almost twice as likely as men to encounter anxiety attacks, especially females aged 45-54, while the gap in between males and females narrows sharply in older age groups.Anxiety disorders are more typically related with depression than any other disorder. 50 percent the individuals with a depressive condition also report some form of anxiety. In anxiety disorders individuals experience frequent, intensive and irrational anxiety. The various kinds of anxiety disorders are:? Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)· Social Anxiety/Social Phobia· Panic Anxiety Disorder· Agoraphobia· Obsessive-compulsive Disorder· Post-traumatic Stress DisorderWhat is a anxiety disorder? Well| here are the descriptions of the previously mentioned.Generalized Anxiety Disorder, typically known as GAD, is a persistent, irrational, uncontrollable anxiety with extreme worry about specific occasions or activities in every day life. GAD is deemed to be the most common psychological anxiety disorder that affects older adults.Social anxiety, also recognized as social phobia, is the strong, irrational, mind-boggling fear of specific social situations. Panic anxiety disorder is the condition of regular attacks of intensive fear and feelings of doom or terror. When the attack transpires, the sufferer could really feel like he or she is about to have a heart attack, feeling symptoms such as chest pains, palpitations, profuse sweating, clammy hands, among many others. Whatever the nature of the panic anxiety attack, it will cause a set of very disturbing symptoms often causing| the sufferer to fear having another attack – a fear which can in turn cause them to actually have one.Agoraphobia is the fear of being in or circumstances from which escape may possibly be difficult. Individuals with agoraphobia usually find themselves unable to depart their because of their overpowering fear that the anxiety attack might occur again.Obsessive-compulsive disorder is marked by recurrent obsessions which are persistent thoughts or ideas, and compulsions which are acts performed in response to an obsession. These compulsions are extreme and they interfere with a individuals standard development as a social being and with everyday existence. Such compulsions may possibly be – abnormal washing and cleaning; excessive checking and rechecking of things like on-off switches, locked doors, etc; always putting things in order and organizing things; violent undesirable ideas of hurting themselves or a loved one; paralysed fear of always needing things and hence never throwing things out etc. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is marked by flashbacks and recurrent thoughts following a person experiences or is exposed to a terrifying traumatic occasion. The traumatic events leading to PTSD have been defined as when a individual experiences or witnesses events that involve death or the threat of death or a significant injury of self or others. The definition goes on to state that the person’s response was one of intense emotions of fear and helplessness.Once you have decided the type or sort of anxiety that you believe you are suffering from, you will need to immediately make an appointment with a physician in order to properly be diagnosed.Keep in mind, you do not have to live with anxiety!

Article by John C Allen

While there are a number of risk factors for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), there is one common thread for all those who suffer from it: real trauma. While not everyone who lives through a traumatic situation develops PTSD, our understanding of PTSD has evolved over the last few decades – and so has our understanding of the impact different kinds of trauma can have on our minds and bodies.

Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, flashbacks, exhaustion, and more extreme effects, have shown up throughout history and are often connected with war and conflict. Our modern understanding of PTSD was formed in the 1970s after the Vietnam War; soldiers continued to experience life-impacting effects long after they came home.

However, it’s important to recognize that it can be caused by other significant events, too. PTSD has been diagnosed in people who have survived natural disasters, acts of violence like shootings or rape, childhood neglect or physical abuse, and in some cases being threatened with violence.<h2>Is it Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?</h2>There are six criteria for diagnosing PTSD:

Exposure to a traumatic event.”This must have involved both (a) loss of “physical integrity”, or risk of serious injury or death, to self or others, and (b) a response to the event that involved intense fear, horror or helplessness (or in children, the response must involve disorganized or agitated behavior).”Persistent re-experiencing.Persistent avoidance and emotional numbing.Persistent symptoms of increased arousal not present before.”These are all physiological response issues, such as difficulty falling or staying asleep, or problems with anger, concentration, or hypervigilance.”Duration of symptoms for more than a month.Significant impairment. If the other criteria are met but the symptoms haven’t been around for more than a month, a diagnosis of acute stress reaction – a variation of PTSD – might be given.<h2>Getting help</h2>If someone is experiencing symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, treatment can only begin once he or she has been removed from the crisis situation. This includes ongoing trauma, like ongoing domestic or community abuse, but can also refer to other conditions – treatment for drug or alcohol use, for example.

Once in a safe environment, a detailed evaluation will be conducted and a treatment plan created that meets the needs of that individual. Treatments can include cognitive-behavioral therapy, coping strategies, and medication.<h2>Finding more information</h2>Treatment for someone with PTSD includes education for their family and loved ones. As explained in our information about PTSD: ” Understanding that PTSD is a medically-recognized anxiety disorder that occurs in normal individuals under extremely stressful conditions is essential for effective treatment.

Is a condition where the person feels extremely worried or anxious on a regular basis. Exaggerated feelings of worry or anxiety are normal in some situations, but for people who have generalized anxiety disorder or related conditions, the feelings are out of proportion with the situation at hand.

People with generalized anxiety disorder are unable to stop worrying about everyday events and situations, and may become overly concerned with money, work, school, health or their families. They spend their days in constant worry or anxiety over certain situations, and they often end up feeling worn out, depressed, sad, and cannot enjoy relationships or social activities.

There is no known root cause of generalized anxiety disorder, but doctors and researchers conjecture that there are several factors that contribute to the development of this anxiety problem. Family history often plays an important role in the development of generalized anxiety disorder. If a person’s parent were constant “worriers”, they probably grew up in an environment where fear and anxiety were part of everyday life.

Environmental factors can also be a cause of anxiety disorders. Stressful events such as abuse, divorce, moving, changing jobs or losing a loved one can trigger real fear, dread and anxiety, but this can worsen if it is left unaddressed. The person can get into the habit of feeling difficult feelings all over again whenever they are stressed, and this can perpetuate the cycle of anxiety. MedicineNet.com reports that many people turn to food, nicotine or caffeine to manage their feelings, but this often makes the situation worse.

Finally, brain chemistry may play a role in the development of generalized anxiety disorder. People who have anxiety problems typically have abnormal levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, which can effect the types of messages the brain is sending or receiving. This means the person may be experiencing a fear response from only a mildly stressful situation, and will start to link the mildly stressful situation to that negative experience. In reality, the brain is just sending the wrong type of message to the body, so the person perceives what is happening to them in the wrong way.

Correcting neurotransmitter imbalances is possible by eating certain foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In some extreme cases, medication or natural supplements may also be recommended. It’s important to understand that generalized anxiety disorder is quite common, and more women experience the symptoms and effects of this disorder than men.Even though family history and environmental factors may not change, there are several ways to reduce the effects of GAD and other anxiety disorders. Making healthy food choices, getting enough rest, maintaining a regular exercise schedule, and controlling stress in a healthy way can help to reduce feelings of fear, worry and overwhelm on a regular basis.

Lifestyle and behavior modification may be the best option for the millions of people suffering from daily anxiety problems, and may be necessary when generalized anxiety disorder symptoms and related anxiety problems are interfering with daily life. The Emotional Impact of Anxiety Disorders

affect millions of men and women every year, and most people experience a combination of emotional and physical symptoms depending on the severity of their condition. Anxiety disorders range from generalized, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias and social anxiety , but almost all have the same spectrum of emotional symptoms that have significant effects on the person’s well-being and emotional health. The primary symptoms associated with all anxiety is excessive, even irrational fear or worry about a particular situation, place or thing. However, the following emotional symptoms can also be present, and can occur frequently, or become a part of the person’s personality:1. Anticipating the worst. Most people suffering from an anxiety disorder are always preparing for the worst, and expect negative things to happen. This can perpetuate a cycle of negative thinking, and may lead to depression, more anxiety and other problems.2. Agitation or restlessness.

Often leave the person feeling uneasy or uncomfortable in certain situations. In some cases, the sufferer may experience constant restlessness even when trying to relax at home. This is because they have gotten into the habit of maintaining a heightened sense of awareness, and may have become particularly sensitive to even the slightest changes in their environment.3. Feeling jumpy or tense on a regular basis. Most people who have even the mildest forms of anxiety disorder will feel as though they are always on the edge, or have to “walk on eggshells.”

Article by Denise M. Daniels

A generalized anxiety disorder can be described as excessive worry about every day things, a feeling that leaves behind a lot of tension and lasts for more than 6 months. This tension and anxiety will interfere with one’s way of life such that they are not able to function properly. You spend most of the time worrying; you feel impending doom and are overly anxious about things that would not usually worry you. When left unchecked, generalized anxiety disorders can lead to panic attacks.

Here is how this happens. Panic attacks can generally happen because of a feeling of increased tension and worry in a person. The more you worry, the more your body is convinced that there is some danger, and so starts preparing itself for defence. The typical defence reaction is called fight or flight; the body is getting ready either to fight the enemy, or to run away. It will start to feed the muscles with more energy, the heart will pump a little faster to make sure that more blood is moving amongst the muscles, and the muscles themselves will tighten just in case they have to move into action.

Eventually, a tipping point is reached. All this accumulated energy has to be disposed of. The “enemy” is all the fear and the worry that is bottled up inside the body. Without any warning, the body will suddenly react as though it’s in extreme danger. All the reactions that you would expect in such a situation will manifest; the heart pounds much faster, the muscles will tremble, and the chest will tighten. There is a strong sense of impending doom. The episode lasts for a few minutes and then passes, and it may take a few minutes or even a few days to feel normal again.

Because you are in a state of constant worry, you now have one more thing to worry about: what if I have another panic attack? You will fixate and worry over this to the point where the body starts to prepare all over again to either fight or flee. And then another panic attack occurs, at which point you will now be very worried that something is terribly wrong…

You can see how generalized anxiety disorders can lead to panic attacks, and panic attacks to generalized anxiety disorders. It becomes a vicious cycle and if you don’t stop it, it may end up taking over your life.

There are 2 things that you need to look at here. One is the anxiety disorder. What is causing you to worry endlessly? In many cases, it’s simply the life that we live. We are caught up in things we do that make us unhappy; we are all too eager to please and so small failures are magnified; we never take a break to refresh and restore ourselves.

The other thing is the panic attacks. Sometimes, they can occur for no reason. It’s understandable that someone should worry about what could be causing them, but don’t worry yourself so much that you end up being caught in a spiral of worry that will cause you another attack.

In both cases, you can be helped. Generalized anxiety disorders and panic attacks are today recognized as a medical condition and you can get treated either through therapy or medications, or a combination of both.

You must never ignore any signs that are similar to the ones described here. If you feel yourself worrying excessively, you need to stop and find out what it is. In most of the cases, they are things that you can let go of with little consequence. Sometimes you may find that you want to justify your reasons for being anxious and worried. Ask yourself if whatever is causing you generalized anxiety and panic attacks; is it really worth my health?

Question by : How to cope with panic attacks during exams?
I have panic disorder. My panic attacks happen precisely in closed spaces, like classrooms. I KNOW I will have a panic attack during my exams since I’ll have to be closed in a classroom 3 hours without permission to leave, in a hot place full of people.

What to do? I’m thinking of taking meds but then I’ll be VERY sleepy and not able to focus, plus meds make me sleepy but they don’t take the panic attacks away!

Best answer:

Answer by Sage
If your panic disorder is medically verified you can get accomodations for your condition during exams. It’s the law (at least in the US). They would have to provide breaks & etc. It’s just how it is.

If your panic disorder is not medically verified you have less options available to you. You already know you cannot take the drugs. This is something you already answered in your own post. You will have to work on techniques to cope with your condition if this is the case. I would suggest researching various stress management techniques. No one is saying it’s not difficult, but without a formal diagnosis/medical verification you are on your own.

Are you experiencing symptoms of social phobia? It is characterized by the onset of fear when the person is exposed to or asked to perform before a group of people. The mere thought of it could send one in a state of panic. In some cases, the anxiety is so severe that the person just faints.

What’s more, it has many effects on your mental and physical health. It makes life much less enjoyable and it leaves sufferers out of many good opportunities. Therefore, social phobia is very important to be treated.

Treatment for social phobia may take some time before you start seeing the first result, which is the reason why many people choose to give up. Consequently, it is very important to believe that your phobia can be cured. There are many factors that can change speed of treatment. It may depend on how severe your phobia is and your commitment in cure. And if you go to therapy then it depends how experienced your therapist is.

Natural treatment for social phobia is a better option any one can take. It is painless and can be a one-time cure to finally being free from your fears. You can view it as just getting used to the presence of the thing that causes you to be scared out of your wit or results to rapid anxiety build up in your system. The patients are also treated through psychotherapy wherein they talk to clinical psychologists about their fears. They are encouraged to express their emotions and cure themselves.

However, facing their fear is the worst possible cure for most people with social phobia. They would rather seek treatment through medication to calm their frayed nerves until their fear goes away. But anti-anxiety pills can lead to other diseases or disorders. Using natural treatment is not only effective but also the safer option as natural methods do not often have serious side effects.

Bayside Psychotherapy, we help people with chronic pain management, irritable bowel syndrome treatment, social phobia treatment and all Psychotherapy. We also provide online counseling services.

Article by Velma Merrick

A panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming anxiety and fear. Your heart pounds and you can’t breathe. You feel dizzy and sick to your stomach. You may even feel like you’re dying or going crazy. Left untreated, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and other problems. They may even cause you to withdraw from normal activities. But panic is treatable – and the sooner you seek help, the better. With treatment, you can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of panic and regain control of your life.

It is imperative that you need to learn how to cure panic attacks the moment you experience one of its symptoms.

As with most behavioral illnesses, the causes of panic attacks are many. Certainly there is evidence that the tendency to have panic attacks can sometimes be inherited. However, there is also evidence that panic may be a learned response and that the attacks can be initiated in otherwise healthy people simply given the right set of circumstances. Research into the causes of panic attacks is ongoing.Panic attacks causes can be many stressful situations and a reoccurrence may also be brought on by the anticipation of a stressful situation where an attack has previously occurred. Some people may experience a panic attack while driving the car, in a queue at the supermarket, at work, in an elevator or even in an open area. The situations are many and varied.

Panic attacks causes can also be spontaneous even during periods of relaxation or sleep.

The underlying root cause is anxiety. Anxiety is a very basic emotion defined as a state of apprehension or fear resulting from the anticipation of a real or perceived threat, event or situation. It is one of the most common human emotions and relates to the fight or flight response.

Some research suggests that your body’s natural fight-or-flight response to danger is involved in panic attacks. For example, if a grizzly bear came after you, your body would react instinctively. Your heart rate and breathing would speed up as your body prepared itself for a life-threatening situation. Many of the same reactions occur in a panic attack. But it’s not known why a panic attack occurs when there’s no obvious danger present.

It is important that you have a positive approach towards stopping your panic attacks They can be avoided and are curable.

Determining the cause of a panic attack is often difficult. For one, panic attack may not be the sole problem but the attack is only one of the symptoms of an underlying medical or mental condition. Also, panic attack can be a side effect of drug or substance use may it be a prescribed medication or not. A panic attack can be a result of a complication of some serious illnesses. Some reasons may be psychosomatic, a product of irrational thoughts and feelings.

Traumatic incidents such as loss of love ones or other painful experiences may also be possible causes. A panic attack is also triggered by some simple objects or events or environmental conditions considered as phobic by others. Even food and drinks with stimulants and excessive sugar may trigger panic attacks for some. Research evidence even points out that panic attack is a hereditary condition, a long term and predetermined cause.

Regardless of how many causes and triggering factors this disorder may have, there are ways to manage them. Stop living in fear of another panic and anxiety situations.
Panic Attack Fact 5: Last but not the least, panic attack is not hereditary. A note to this panic attacks information: this is highly debatable.
www.FreeGuideToSecrets.com The Truth About Panic Attacks Panic attack can strike anytime, anywhere and to anyone. It doesn’t even need a reason to hit you. Although excessive stress can trigger a panic attack, it is completely random most of the time. However, once you experience the first panic attack, the body will be put on “alert” status and the chances of having another attack is increased. This becomes a problem if panic attacks occur again and again. An important contributor to the occurrence of further panic attacks is related to where the first one occurred. For most, it happens in a place where they cannot escape easily: for example, in a train, bus, taxi, elevator, or building. For example, if the panic attack occurred during a bus ride, chances are, you would be quite nervous during your next bus ride as you think panic attack might hit you again. The more nervous you are, the more likely another panic attack will happen. With your initial experience with panic attack, you will most probably try to escape before you feel the attack coming on. Once out of the bus, the panic feeling subside and your worst fear is confirmed. You associate bus ride to your panic attack. A few more experiences confirms this and you avoid taking a bus altogether. What I have just explained is a typical example of the development of panic attack and it can be applied to any situation. You have a panic attack at a particular place or situation. You link it to that place or situation …

Question by : Does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Today I saw a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at my university for anxiety, she prescribed me medication but also recommended cognitive behavioral therapy. My mom and one of my friends are also encouraging me to try CBT because I don’t really lose anything if it doesn’t work or I don’t like it. Have you ever been in cognitive behavioral therapy? Does it work?

Best answer:

Answer by ZABISBA
I’m reading a book on CBT and I found it to be really helpful. You will help learn techniques and tools you can use to better manage your thinking. CBT is one of the best therapies for mood disorders around, I think you should have an open mind and give it a shot. As with anything, the more you practice CBT, the more results you will get. Hope this helps, good luck.
