A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. It is a strong, irrational fear of something that poses little or no actual danger. There are many specific phobias. Acrophobia is a fear of heights. You may be able to ski the world’s tallest mountains but be unable to go above the 5th floor of an office building. Agoraphobia is a fear of public places, and claustrophobia is a fear of closed-in places. If you become anxious and extremely self-conscious in everyday social situations, you could have a social phobia. My son asks many questions which I always try to find answers for, although this one has me baffled. He would like to know if there is a specific name for people who are scared of tortoises. There are many terms for different phobias but I can’t find one for this, any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you.

Phobias are intense and irrational fears that create strong fear and panic in a person. They interfere with a person’s ability to socialize, work and in severe cases, live normally.
Most people experience anxiety or fear about certain events in their lives. For example, it is stressful for the majority of people to attend a job interview or to be assessed for performance at work. Phobias, however, are irrational fears that can prevent people from living normal lives.
Phobias belong to a spectrum of mental problems known as “anxiety disorders” and can be separated into three basic types: specific phobias, social phobia and agoraphobia. Specific phobias revolve around the fear of a specific object or situation.

Anxiety is somewhat a generalized mood condition that is often triggered without an unidentifiable stimulus. Anxiety is often accompanied with the feeling of fear and worriness. But then, simple anxiety is just a normal reaction to stress. But whenever anxiety becomes successive and extreme, it then becomes an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder may come in different forms. One of which is the so called phobia. A phobia is also defined as a mental illness that more commonly occurs in women of all age groups than men. The fact is based upon the study of the American Institute of Mental Health.
Like phobias, anxiety disorders might be present or can originate at the early age of a person often after a triggering event. Individuals who suffer from anxiety disorder typically show symptoms like sweating, palpitations, headache, muscle spasms, and hypertension. In worst cases, individuals with such problem usually experience exhaustion and fatigue. These symptoms are also present in individuals who suffer from a certain kind of phobia. This is due to the fact that the phobia could be the single largest category of anxiety disorders. Phobias cause persons to anticipate extremely damaging and terrifying consequences from objects, persons or situations they fear.

Vomit phobia is one of the most widely known phobias, and it affects more than 2% of the population. It is a very specific phobia, and this makes it very easy to cure. There are many possible cures, and one of the most effective ones, can be found on this web page. Keep reading to learn more.
It is still unknown, what exactly causes vomit phobia. It sounds very unique, and strange, but in reality it is the number 5 most popular phobia in the world. Phobias are irrational fears, which people develop out of nowhere, and if not cured – they can last a lifetime. You notice, that I use the word ‘cure’, instead of ‘treatment’. There is a reason for that – treating phobias does not work. What works is curing them – you can go to a therapist, and try to ‘treat’ your vomit phobia for many months, and even years, which may not only not help you, but it may cause you to develop other phobias, as a result of the treatment.
