Article by dzulkarneaen Daniel

Many of agoraphobia sufferers are being mislead by information that there is a specific agoraphobia treatment. The fact is there isn’t.Inexperienced doctors and medical practitioners will give you drugs for depression or sedatives which make you feel weak and drowsy. Sometimes they will send you for sessions of counseling. These have both been proven to be very unsuccessful agoraphobia treatments indeed.

For agoraphobia treatment to be successful, it needs to address the source of the high anxiety that causes it. There really is no other agoraphobia Treatment/.

Why? It is because to get rid of agoraphobia, the system in the mind that causes high anxiety must be address. Medication and psychology DO NOT solve this. In reality agoraphobia cannot happen without the presence of high anxiety. So getting rid of the anxiety at its core will have the instant effect of removing the agoraphobia also. Only this will provide a curative agoraphobia treatment.

Agoraphobia exist when high anxiety causes the “what if” thoughts which are created to produce a risk analysis of our surrounding in order to detect the presence of danger. For example in a room full of lions, the mind asks a list of questions to decide the best course of alternatives to take in order to either “fight” or “flight” the danger. It is this “flight” from danger thought that causes agoraphobia.

When anxiety levels grow in the course of anxiety disorder, symptoms become more apparent. Hence the anxiety control center in the brain “reads” these symptoms as “the threat in the room”. You will not know that the mind is doing this because it is totally “subconscious” Once the danger has been known, the mind then makes the decision whether to fight or flee from the threat. Of course, you cannot flee from your symptoms, so instead, you go into “safety seeking mode”.

This IS what causes agoraphobia. As we then go from place to place, your anxious mind constantly produces these risk analysis based on your CURRENT location. It always finds that your symptoms to be the danger in that new environment and then it says, “when I am here, I am threatened- so RETREAT” The next time you intend to go to that place, the mind has already formed an “anchor” between it and danger. So even before you reach there, you feel anxious! This builds the agoraphobic reaction and behaviors.

But does an agoraphobia treatment exist that reverses this? The answer is absolutely YES! By reducing anxiety back down to a ‘normal’ level, your agoraphobia will simply fade away. FACT! It is the only effective agoraphobia treatment… it is how ALL recovered agoraphobia and anxiety sufferers were able to return to normal, anxiety free lives.

To get rid of agoraphobia is what those who suffer from this condition perceive. This is reasonable of course since agoraphobia is a detrimental condition. It may not be life threatening, but those who have this undergo a serious suffering from this condition. This explains why up to these days, there is still a continuous search of effective treatment for agoraphobia.

Fortunately, agoraphobia is not a chronic condition. However, not providing the immediate treatment for agoraphobia may result to a more serious anxiety disorder, which in turn can lead to insanity, or worst, can lead to suicide. So if you are one of those who have been in turmoil of this condition, here are a variety of methods you can apply or follow as treatment for agoraphobia:

Psychotherapy – This include different therapeutic methods which focuses on decreasing negative or anxiety-provoking thoughts by means of replacing them with positive ones. Such method is also called the “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”. This has been found very effective treatment for agoraphobia, especially when done with some medication as it relieves anxiety agoraphobia symptoms and keeps them from coming back.

Medical Treatment – The main objective of this is to treat panic disorder which is believed to be the main factor of developing agoraphobia. Commonly prescribed medication include tranquilizer such as benzodiazepine and any members of Serotonin Selective Reuptake Inhibitor or commonly known as SSRI. Paraxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Sertaline (Zoloft) are the most common examples of SSRI. Despite the effectiveness of these medications, it should be noted that they too have side effects such as constipation, insomnia, blurred vision, and even sexual dysfunction. Another important thing to take note also is the fact that inappropriate dose of these medicines may lead to dependence of those who undergo treatment for agoraphobia. Therefore, always seek assistance from your doctor upon taking any medication.

Preventive Measures – This is simply to keep away from stress and anxiety-provoking factors. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a good start. Take care of your diet, eat the right type of food, do regular exercise, and keep away from vices such as smoking and drinking alcohol. Following all these would condition your overall health. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and if mind is healthy, a person is likely to develop anxiety disorder. If this is regulated, overcoming any fear such as agoraphobia will be achievable.

Self-motivation – Another one effective treatment for agoraphobia is self-drive. The best way to do this is to appreciate your achievements and focus only on things that would motivate you. Take all failures as challenges, not as your downfall. Reward yourself through self-exposure. You can start talking to people online if you are too afraid to face other people in person. Later on, you will learn how to cope being in a situation where you will be talking face to face to other people. You might as well talk to your close friend or any member of your family. Share to them your success and your failures too.

If you suspect that you have agoraphobia and are looking for information on how to stop anxiety related to it, then read the facts below.

Today, people are afflicted by a range of anxiety disorders. These disorders are generally characterized by severe anxiety. Under the umbrella of anxiety disorders fall the group of phobias. Phobias are severe and irrational fears that lead to panic. Agoraphobia is one example of such phobias. It is the most commonly treated phobia in mental health. Its signs and symptoms are severe enough to need treatment.

Agoraphobia is the fear of leaving one’s home or safe area and venturing into the outside world. It is also found in combination with other phobias or obsessive-compulsive disorders. Agoraphobics or people suffering from agoraphobia typically feel insecure and this could prompt panic attacks. Several individuals suffering from agoraphobia confine themselves to their homes. Things that normal individuals do such as attending parties and going shopping may prompt their anxiety because these take them away from their safe haven or habitat; which in most cases is the home. A person with agoraphobia can become socially isolated. Such social isolation could then result in other problems. As an example, other anxiety disorders may creep in. Severity of anxiety increases. Depression may even set-in. The person may develop negative self-concept. His self-esteem becomes low.

Given the above, it is important that you learn about ways of how to stop anxiety related agoraphobia before it destroys your life.

Often, agorapohobia is not well and clearly understood by several people, sufferers included. First of all, agoraphobia is not a fear of open spaces. It is also not a fear of crowded spaces. Agoraphobia is specifically a fear of being too far from a normal area, despite the crowd. Some agoraphobics are able to host visitors, even though they themselves find it problematical to be outgoing.

If you are suffering from agoraphobia and are looking for ways of how to stop anxiety related to it, don’t think any less of yourself. Suffering from agoraphobia does not mean you are less than most. Anybody could fall victim to agoraphobia. The disorder is about twice as widespread among women as among men. It by and large begins with generalized panic attacks or slight phobias. Then it develops into a more serious disorder. Treatment is available. This includes graded exposure. A person who successfully goes through graded exposure learns to face and withstand his anxiety trigger. As an example, he may start by venturing out of his home and sitting in the verandah for a few minutes. As time goes on, he may start to leave his residence; each time going further than he previously did. Graded exposure should in the end lead to a state of affairs where the person is totally not apprehensive about being away from his dwelling. Anti-anxiety drugs such as alprazolam are also currently used to treat agoraphobia.

Some very famous and efficient people have been diagnosed with agoraphobia. These include celebrity chef Paula Dean, actress Kim Basinger, director Woody Allen, and Nobel laureate for literature Elfriede Jelinek. It is vital to realise that if you seek treatment, you can get one. If you suffer from agoraphobia, ask for help and you can begin the healing process. Don’t shy away from seeking help on how to stop anxiety related to agoraphobia. You owe it to yourself and your future to get agoraphobia treatment.

Agoraphobia treatment that works permanently! This is the wish of those people who have been trapped in an uncontrolled fear. Indeed, agoraphobia is a serious condition that if not treated immediately will develop into something threatening. Therefore, proper treatment and medication must be taken into consideration the very first time a symptom of this condition occurred.

Agoraphobia treatment can be taken in many different methods. These include the following:

Psychotherapy – This can be done in a form of discussion session which aims to remove negative thoughts that may provoke anxiety. The best type of psychotherapy is called “Cognitive Behavioral Treatment”. Its main focus is more of mind exercise and relaxation. Another therapy is called Cognitive Restructuring. Here, the person is exposed to factual, yet favorable facts to counter faulty thinking. Both of these agoraphobia treatment methods are known effective in relieving anxiety and then later on remove agoraphobia.

Medication – Unfortunately, medicines for agoraphobia are not available over the counter. They are prescribed by doctors which must be taken properly. TranquiliIzers such as Benzodiazepine is a common example of medicine for agoraphobia treatment. Inappropriate dose of this can make the person dependent and addicted. There had been many cases of patients committing because of the absence of these medicines. Therefore, it is important to follow the prescription upon taking these.

Self-development Program – There are now stress and anxiety management programs available even on the Internet that have been proven effective agoraphobia treatment. These programs main focus is in overcoming agoraphobia, stress and anxiety and promotion self-development.

Personal Therapy- The best treatment for agoraphobia also lies on the person suffering from this condition. Agoraphobia and any other anxiety disorders can be a result of improper care of one’s health. Studies shows that people who have unhealthy lifestyle are more prone to any diseases and anxiety is not an exception.

The effectiveness of any agoraphobia treatment may vary from person to person, depending on the severity of the condition. There are some who were treated fast and later on the treatments provided, while others took a while in overcoming agoraphobia.

For those who have been in turmoil of agoraphobia, we know for a fact that this disease is making our lives miserable. This is why, to consider the right agoraphobia treatment is very important. Yes there are a lot of programs designed as agoraphobia treatment but unfortunately, no matter how good these programs are, there still some who are unable to adapt with the program and are still too afraid to even try them.

So what must be missing here? That’s probably the fact that those who have agoraphobia are already developing the so called “ill-mindedness” So no matter how effective the agoraphobia treatment program is, while the person is too fearful and too negative about even trying such program, still, nothing will happen.

One thing that an agoraphobia patient should understand is that, programs for agoraphobia treatment are designed to help them change their ways of life, to simply gain back the normal life that these people had once savored. However, most of these people are already becoming closed minded and even fear to show up themselves to other people. Now how would an agoraphobia treatment be induced to these people?

The key here is to introduce the programs of agoraphobia treatment in the simplest form. Since most of the patients are becoming home-bound, instead of just offering the treatment as a scheduled session, you can offer these in a form of program broadcast over the Internet.

The Internet world has now become a vast resource for almost everything that an individual would need. For someone with agoraphobia, finding an online agoraphobia treatment is the easiest and most convenient option. With Ebooks and CDs/Videos accessible online, a patient is given the opportunity to learn things in his own pace, while still being guided by an expert psychologist who will be offering agoraphobia treatment programs.

There are now many of these agoraphobia treatment programs available on the Internet so if you are one of the agoraphobia patients who doesn’t want to face somebody, this is what you need.

Tired of hiding from people? Sick of becoming home bound? annoyed by your uncontrolled fear? No need to be in such misery, get agoraphobia help and end agoraphobia now!

For those of you who are already suffering from agoraphobia, do not just tolerate this condition. You may think it’s nothing serious but the truth is, it’s slowly killing you inside. True that agoraphobia is not a chronic disorder, but for someone who lives in fear, that’s more than killing yourself already. And literally speaking, some severe cases of agoraphobia lead to suicide. Of course you don’t want things to reach this far. But that’s a reality. As time goes by, an untreated agoraphobia condition can develop into something more serious such as insanity and suicide.

Of course you don’t want to live in fear, so why neglect what you are going through? Despite the alarming continuous increase in number of agoraphobia case, it should be made clear that Psychologists and experts are doing continuous research and studies to come up with the best agoraphobia help they can provide to agoraphobia patients. Not only that, they have already extended their services online.

One great advantage of online agoraphobia help is it’s flexibility. Some agoraphobia cases are associated to social anxiety disorder or the condition characterized by the fear of being in a crowd, talking in front of somebody, doing anything in front of another person, or even using the public toilet. So these type of patients fear of facing anybody so a one on one session with a Psychologist may not apply to them. But if the program is online, these type of patients can still take advantage of what’s in the program without having to fear of facing other people.

Whether it’s available offline or online, having agoraphobia help is necessary for someone who goes through the suffering of this condition. And the best time to get agoraphobia help is right by the time you experience any symptoms of it. So while it’s early, act now, get agoraphobia help, and free yourself from fear.

Agoraphobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of public places or open areas, especially those from which escape could be difficult or help not immediately accessible. Persons with agoraphobiafrequently also have panic disorder.

Agoraphobia is just one type of phobia, or irrational fear. People with phobias feel dread or panic when they face certain objects, situations, or activities. People with agoraphobia frequently also experience panic attacks, but panic attacks, or panic disorder, are not a requirement for a diagnosis of agoraphobia. The defining feature of agoraphobia is anxiety about being in places from which escape might be embarrasing or difficult, or in which help might be unavailable. The person suffering from agoraphobiausually avoids the anxiety-provoking situation and may become totally housebound.

People with agoraphobia will find that they spend almost all of their life in their own home was they have the condition. They will never leave their home, not even to go for a short walk to go to the local shops to get some food. As such they become very reliant on other people and can be a real hindrance to them as well. Their own lives will become completely and entirely restricted by a somewhat irrational fear that will cause them serious anxiety and stress.

Here are the real statistics… According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)… roughly about 3.2 million Americans from the ages of 18 to 54 have Agoraphobia. And about 1/3 of the folks who have panic disorder… progress to developAgoraphobia.

The causes of agoraphobia are currently unknown, but it does occur approximately twice as often in women it does as men. It is thought to be linked to stressful environments, substance abuse, and other anxiety disorders.

People who live with agoraphobia suffer from repeated panic attacks and therefore are often preoccupied with the thought of having another panic attack, which leads them to avoid any situations where a panic attack could occur.

People with agoraphobia often have a hard time feeling safe in places where crowds gather such as the mall, concert and sporting event arenas, carnivals and fairs. Times Square in NYC on New Year’s Eve is an extreme example of this kind of setting. Another uncomfortable situation is one where escape or exit is difficult or not practical such as being in an elevator; riding in a bus, train or airplane; or crossing a bridge. If one does have a panic attack and has to leave suddenly or receive on-site medical attention in a public place, it’s viewed as “embarrassing” so people with agoraphobiatend avoid places where a quick exit is not available. A person with agoraphobia has high anxiety levels in places that are new and unfamiliar because they have no control.

Treatment of Agoraphobia involves confronting fears like these and can be challenging because of it. Persons who pursue treatment can get away from the trap that Agoraphobia presents and live more fulfilling and enjoyable lives

Some typical places and situations that are feared include:

Being outside or far from home
Being home alone
Being in a crowd
Standing in line
Traveling on public transportation or in cars
Elevators
Crowded places
Crossing bridges

There is great potential for Agoraphobia to limit a person’s life activities depending on its severity. In the most severe cases ofAgoraphobia, a person might not be able to leave their home at all, and without medical treatment will stay at home for years at a time. They will not be able to go to work, school, visit with friends or family members or go to the mail box out of fear. Seemingly simple things such as taking the dog for a walk or going to the grocery store can leave a person with Agoraphobiahighly dependent on others for assistance. Further anxiety and guilt are sometimes results of Agoraphobia, and people with it might turn to substance abuse or alcohol in an effort to cope with hopelessness, guilt, isolation, fear and loneliness.

Now I have discovered how to cure agoraphobia. Get your FREE report on how you can instantly eliminate anxiety panic attacks hereCure My Anxiety Panic Attacks

The fear of being in an open space or in a situation where panic attack may occur where escape wont be available or may be embarrassing – these is the exact characteristic of agoraphobia. It’s very alarming indeed! And sad to say, this condition may occur to anyone, of any gender and age. Would there be ways of overcoming agoraphobia? Yes, so for those of you who are in torment of this condition do not be discouraged.

Agoraphobia is more than frightening than the fear being felt by the person experiencing this. Those who have this find it hard to be fully happy. Some of them just prefer to be alone and to confine themselves just to avoid such fear. Indeed, this disease is very alarming. But as mentioned, there are many ways of overcoming agoraphobia. Below are some of them:

Keeping Away From Stress

Stress is one of the major factors that can provoke anxiety that may lead to agoraphobia. Being too anxious about things, worrying too much, and engaging into physical exhaustion can cause hormonal imbalance resulting to stress. Stress can affect, not just the emotion, but also the way brain functions. To stay away from stress is to engage oneself to recreational activities, to avoid too much work, and not to worry too much. Following these simple things would make overcoming agoraphobia much easier.

Do Relaxation Exercises

This is a method commonly applied during therapy against anxiety. Through relaxation exercise, the mind and body are coordinated properly in releasing toxic as well as stress hormones that may provoke anxiety. As a result, the mind finds peace and thoughts become clearer. One good example of relaxation exercise includes meditation. But there are more relaxation exercises that can be done at home as well and which are accessible online.

Consult Professionals

Upon learning that you are experiencing agoraphopia due to panic attack, it is important to immediately consult a specialist for proper medication and treatment. These people can give you a first hand remedy that may lead to permanent treatment. The doctor can prescribe medication such as tranquilizer, while psycho-therapists or psychologist can provide treatment, especializing overcoming agoraphobia and other anxiety disorders. If the condition is severe already, like you no longer want to face people, you can sort to agoraphobia help online. There are wide variety of online help for agoraphobia over the Internet. People behind them are experts themselves so guarantee that they can help. And besides, you don’t have to make a personal interaction with them. Treatment can be arranged in module like studying them online.

Overcoming agoraphobia is easy if an immediate action is taken while the condition is not severe yet. Therefore, while agoraphobia is not that serious yet, do what’s necessary. Do not let agoraphobia overthrow you. Instead, do something and make overcoming agoraphobia a possibility.

Agoraphobia definition has two versions. The first definition says that agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder attributed by the fear of a wide open space. The word agoraphobia comes from the Greek word “agora” that means marketplace. The word phobia on the other hand is primarily known as fear. The combination of these two words would then give you “fear of marketplace” as definition. This version of agoraphobia definition clearly stressed this condition as an abnormal fear of unknown place, situation, acquaintance, or other activities that makes a person want to escape from.

As time goes by agoraphobia definition has also connected to other anxiety disorders such as panic attack and social anxiety in progression of avoidance behavior. The diversion of agoraphobia definition is considerably another story in relation to the original version. The new version of agoraphobia definition states that agoraphobia is a a condition with the implication of the fear of falling out of control emotionally and physically in the instance of being in a situation or place where panic attacks and escape may be difficult and may also be embarrassing.

The gravity of agoraphobia varies from case to case. Other people with agoraphobia live normally by means of keeping themselves away from any anxiety-provoking situations or to stay off from places where there are so many people. This later on make them relatively homebound /bedbound. Some also favor to lock themselves just to stay away from the feeling of intense fear. Much severe cases would lead to madness or addiction, in which event later on becomes a life threat.

If you are one of those who have been experiencing agoraphobia, do not hesitate to look for agoraphobia help for proper agoraphobia treatment. You are now provided with so many options you can choose from to help you in overcoming agoraphobia. Treatment for agoraphobia through anti-anxiety programs is also now readily available online as much as offline.

Two versions evolved making up agoraphobia definition. The original definition states that agoraphobia is a kind of anxiety disorder pertaining to the intense fear of a wide open space. Originally, the word agoraphobia comes from the Greek word “agora” which simply means marketplace. Adding the word phobia then would give you “fear of marketplace” as the new definition. Therefore, this version of agoraphobia definition gives emphasis to the fear of an open space or a situation in which the person experiencing this would not want to be at.

In a while agoraphobia definition has also aligned with other known anxiety disorders such as social anxiety and panic attack with the advancement of avoidance behavior. The new evolution of agoraphobia definition apparently differ compare to the first one. The new version of agoraphobia definition implies that agoraphobia is a state of being attributed by the fear of breaking down the control of emotional and physical state caused by the ongoing panic attacks. As a result, they tend to fear being in a situation or place where panic attacks and escape may not be available or may be an embarrassment.

The extent of agoraphobia varies from one person to another. Some people with agoraphobia live normally by means of staying away from any anxiety-provoking situations or to simply live away from places populated by too many people. As a result, they become relatively homebound or even bedbound, locking themselves just to avoid the feeling of intense fear. Some more severe cases would lead to madness and addiction, which effect later on would make them want to kill themselves.

For those who have been tormenting with agoraphobia, make it to a point of getting agoraphobia help for the appropriate agoraphobia treatment. Wide variety of choices must be taken into consideration to assist you in overcoming agoraphobia. Agoraphobia experts are now enforcing the fight against agoraphobia.

Famous people with agoraphobia? Sure you’ve heard of agoraphobia – but did you know that several celebs have been afflicted with this isolating condition?

Agoraphobia is commonly know as “fear of the marketplace” but in real life it often plays out as fear of leaving the house. People who become agoraphobic often do so after having a series of panic attacks. Wary of experiencing extreme panic again – and also dreading a panic attack in public, they tend to avoid more and more places and situations.

The sad end result is becoming virtually housebound. For some few unlucky sufferers, they become limited to only one room in their house where they feel safe!

There are about 4 million people with agoraphobia. If you happen to suffer from this illness, you are in the company of several celebs. There are several famous people with agoraphobia.

The most well known agoraphobic celeb is probably Kim Basinger, the gorgeous and talented actress. As a child her parents thought she was so withdrawn that they wondered if she had autism. Doctors checked her out and thought not – but she has seemed to find social interaction stressful most of her life. She was agoraphobic for several years and believes it was related to all the public attention she was receiving. Kudos to her for fighting that and becoming a successful actor anyway!

Another of the famous people with agoraphobia is Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. His agoraphobia and bouts of schizophrenia are said to be a direct result of using LSD and other street drugs.

The rich and famous Howard Hughes had a troubled childhood, mostly lived alone and filled with many phobias of catching germs (polio was rampant and no vaccine had yet been invented). He went on to become a very successful businessman but was troubled throughout his life with multiple fears and years of agoraphobia.

The lovely and gregarious Paula Dean is another on our list of famous people with agoraphobia! Paula became a single parent at age 19 and lost both her parents at age 23. She became severely depressed. After having several panic attacks she became housebound – only venturing out for groceries. All that time at home did have a benefit for Paula however. While at home she cooked and cooked, perfecting her skills for 20 years inside her home. When her life took another turn, she forced herself to go out into the world. She opened a restaurant and was discovered by Oprah Winfrey! She is now TV star in her own right.

Other famous people with agoraphobia include Olivia Hussey, Woody Allen, Sigmund Freud, Darryl Hannah, Nicholas Cage, Donny Osmond, and Billy Bob Thornton. Find out more about celebs with agoraphobia at http://www.panic-and-agoraphobia.com/famous-people-with-agoraphobia.html

If you are like these celebs with agoraphobia, please know that this condition can be cured. There are several effective methods which work, often a combination of methods works best.

Whatever you do don’t give up – and remember – you are in good company!

Hi I am Jenna Lynne. If anxiety is starting to control you and limit your life, you need to act right away. Don’t wait another day! You don’t need to suffer – so don’t! Find out more about becoming free from panic, anxiety and phobias at http://www.panic-and-agoraphobia.com

If you’re unsure if you have agoraphobia, take an agoraphobia test that might help you clear a few things up. It can help you find out if you have it and if you need help.

Agoraphobia Is An Anxiety Disorder

Agoraphobia is one of the anxiety disorders. It is generally preceded by panic attacks that turn into a panic disorder. It’s estimated that 1 in 3 people with a panic disorder will develop agoraphobia.

When a person has many panic attacks and starts adjusting their lifestyle because of it, which is understandable, it becomes a panic disorder.

Panic attacks are terrible when they happen in a public place. It’s one thing to get it in the privacy of your home, but in public, you can feel embarrassed and humiliated.

Agoraphobia Is Like A Trap

In a slow and natural way, you can fall into a trap of avoiding places, people and situations for fear of getting an attack.

For example, if you happened to get a panic attack in the subway, and it happened again on the subway, you may associate the subway with the attack and totally avoid it.

These situations increase. Pretty soon, you start to shut yourself off from nearly everything for fear of having a panic attack. You don’t go anywhere unless accompanied by someone.

Get Help And Get Well

Luckily, there is lots of help available for agoraphobia. This help can be in the form of drugs, therapy, natural or alternative methods. You’ll also need to make lifestyle changes if you want to get well.

Getting well can be done. It’s harder for some and may take longer. It may be hard and frightening work, but in the end, it has to be done and it CAN be done with help, patience and perseverance, or it can last for years!

So go ahead and take the agoraphobia test. If you think you have it, then make the move to get some form of help. Making this move is the first step on your road to recovery.

There are many signs and symptoms of agoraphobia, including some of the more classic ones. Only a qualified medical professional can truly make a proper diagnosis though.

Agoraphobia may be present with panic disorder, which is usually the case. On rare occasions, a person with agoraphobia may not have a panic disorder.

Agoraphobia Signs And Symptoms

Some of the things to look out for would be the fear of crowded places and at the other extreme, the fear of being alone. You are afraid to leave home on your own.

You depend on others to go out. You feel helpless and not in control. In fact, you fear losing control, especially in a public place. You need a quick escape.

You avoid people and situations. You endure great fear and stress when you DO go out and fear having a panic attack.

You may also experience lightheadedness, dizziness, chest pain, sweating, rapid heart and trouble breathing. These can be frightening as it can appear to be a serious medical condition.

Overcoming Agoraphobia

You probably will have a hard time believing that you can overcome agoraphobia. At this stage, it seems impossible to get rid of agoraphobia.

Actually, it’s not an easy road. It requires hard work, patience, support, guidance and lots of help. If it was easy, you’d have recovered long ago. So yes, it’s hard, but can be done.

You may have to take medication and have some form of therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy is very good and will require your active participation.

Hypnosis has helped many and may be your ticket out of hell, but hypnosis, though powerful, is not for everyone. Don’t discount it though.

PureCalm, a natural formula can help ease anxiety and panic attacks, which in turn will help with your agoraphobia.

The Linden Method, another drug-free method, is a powerful technique to overcome your problems.

If you can relate to some of the signs and symptoms of agoraphobia, you need to do something. Unlike a cold, it doesn’t eventually go away on its own.

The ultimate cure is to face the fear. This will kill the beast that resides in you once and for all. Even though this is the hardest thing to do, with help, even this can be achieved.

I just want to know if my symptoms are severe enough to discuss them with my Dr. One symptom is, I cannot leave the grounds of my home without going into a panic attack. Also, I feel terrified if I leave something terrible, like another 9/11 will happen. So, is this agoraphobia or paranoia?

I want to get rid of my agoraphobia so that I can go out and do things without constantly being anxious. I always feel that I’m too ugly to go out in public and that everyone is watching and judging me when I go into a place with a lot of people. Outside of my job, I spend all my time at home on the computer.

It’s estimated that the prevalence of agoraphobia in the United States alone is approximately 5%. This could be higher because some people don’t seek help, or have not been diagnosed.

About a third of people with panic disorder go on to develop agoraphobia. These statistics about agoraphobia are quite scary. It’s more common than people think. Yet, the layperson has no clue what agoraphobia is.

At any given time in the United States, over 3 million people in their late teens and well into their fifties have agoraphobia. Twice as many women are afflicted by agoraphobia.

The Importance Of Treatment

Though the condition is treatable, it does require a lot of hard work, dedication and discipline. The work required is also scary. It can be done gradually or quickly.

It’s scary because to get well, recover and live freely and happily once again, you must face fear in the eye. It eventually does get better, but you must remain motivated.

This is why agoraphobia can last for years and perhaps even a lifetime. Sometimes, after some good work and progress, a person may go through a bad spell. They may go back to their ‘old ways’ and give up.

This is why it can drag on. That’s why it’s so important to get treatment, help and guidance for this condition. Once you can overcome the fear of the panic attacks, which is the real problem, then you can be free of its hold on you.

Recovering From Agoraphobia

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication is not only effective, it will help to give you much-needed relief to make great progress. It changes your thoughts and helps you to overcome your fears.

There are many other ways to help you rid yourself of this. 2 programs of note are The Linden Method and the Panic Away programs. Both programs were created by ex-sufferers and know what it takes to deal with this.

Both programs have helped thousands of people. It can help you too. Nothing is a magic pill. It will require major input from you, even if you see a doctor and take medication.

The lifetime prevalence of agoraphobia in the United States alone is thought to be around 2.5% to 6.5%. Many of these people will think they can never be cured. Not so. Perseverance and motivation play the biggest roles in recovery. It can be done.
