a Shrink…no doubt!!!!
If you have an HMO health insurance plan, you’ll need to see your primary physician and get a referral.
If you want medications to help treat your medication, then you’ll need to see a Psychiatrist.
A psychologist or therapist can help you find ways to manage your anxiety/panic attacks.
A combination of both might be a good route. Best of luck to you.
You can see your GP first and then he can refer you to a psychiatrist. If there are no concerns with insurance you can try to go straight to a psychiatrist since a psychiatrist will be able to give you the most help to get you through this.
From the National Institute of Mental Health:
“Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is very useful in treating anxiety disorders. The cognitive part helps people change the thinking patterns that support their fears, and the behavioral part helps people change the way they react to anxiety-provoking situations.”
Check out their brochure on anxiety disorders.

If you want help by talking to someone I would suggest you see a therapist. If you are considering medication then a psychopharmacologist. If your unsure of both. Start with a therapist to access you and take it from there
a Psychiatrist prescribes medications
a psychologist is a therapist who listens to your problems
try seeing the therapist 1st
then if mutually determined that you need medication intervention?
then see the Psychiartist
If I were robbed- I’d be a wreck too!
Good Luck
Well, start by seeing your GP as they are also trained for cases like this & after assessment he may then choose to refer you to a psychiatrist, if he sees any need for that.
Take me seriously. Find a Doc that practices EMDR. It is effective for treating trauma. A robbery is a trauma.
Talk to your General Practitioner to refer you to a good psychologist or therapist.
That way, if you need prescriptions made out to you to help deal with your anxiety … the psychologist/therapist will forward it to your GP or get you to do so.
It’s also a healthy thing to get your Dr and therapists etc to work together, to get you feeling a lot better etc.
It’s a normal thing to feel the way you are feeling after an event like that, and I’m sorry that it’s caused you some trauma.
Just a little reminder from someone who has suffered from Major Depression, Panic Attacks and the occasional bout of anxiety …

I was robbed back in June and I felt the same way. some of the people saying you need to see a shrink in a rude are just ridiculous. Your home and your personal space was invaded, how can you not feel the way that you do. I saw my primary doctor and talked to him. There are medications that can help you thru it. I wish you the best of luck with it. It takes time but time heals all…
Take care.
You’ll probably have to see your family doctor first, who will then very likely refer you to a psychiatrist.
It’s good that you want to do something about it quickly. If you don’t do anything, it will likely get worse, so trust me when I say, deal with it immediately. You may have a waiting period as well to see a psychiatrist, so start the ball rolling.
Panic and anxiety issues are treatable and there are many ways to tackle this problem these days, so hang in there and you’ll start to feel better.
